President Biden has expressed his intention to block Nippon Steel's $14.1 billion acquisition plan for U.S. Steel, citing national security concerns, according to multiple sources. The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), which has been reviewing the proposal, is required to notify the President of its findings by the 22nd or 23rd of this month. While the details of the review process remain confidential, the notification suggests that at least some CFIUS members perceive risks associated with the transaction. If the acquisition is blocked, Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel plan to pursue legal action.
