A Diary That Won't Fit in Three Lines: Tales from a 92-Year-Old Grandpa
[Content: 6 minutes, Quality: Fu-chan level, Additives: 1 link]
Hello.
This is Dagashiya no Hibi-ki! Lol
In the "Fake 3-Line Diary" I posted last month, the diary section about Grandpawas very well received, and at the same time, I received several comments asking,“What happened to Grandpa after that?”While answering that, today I'd like to share a little bit of Grandpa's diary that doesn't fit into three lines.
The Grandpa in the title is my father-in-law, and I have lived with him for 41 years since I married into the family.
He will be 93 soon.
First, let me write a supplementary diary entry regarding“What happened to Grandpa after that?”from
Wednesday, October 16: A ridiculous case of customer harassment・Grandpa completely forgot about the coffee milk he bought and left it unopened until the expiration date had passed by four days.
・He asked me what he should do, so I suggested he throw it away.
・Grandpa stood up, saying, “Selling such old stuff... I’m going to go complain!” so I strongly held him back, saying, “That’s not right.”
・(The exceptional 4th line) Grandpa hopped on his bicycle and raced to the supermarket. I don't know what I'll do if he gets banned!
Sweat. _________________________________________________ That was the end of last month's fake 3-line diary.
・(The forbidden 5th line) Although Grandpa went to complain about the customer harassment-like situation, he had no receipt and couldn't prove when he bought it. The shop staff calmed him down, took the wind out of his sails, and he came home quietly. (Oh, thank goodness...)
It didn't fit into three lines at all!
With that said, what follows is a normal diary.
Please take a look at what life is like for a 92-year-old Grandpa.
*Advance notice: Since this is a diary, not everything is fiction.
Friday, November 1: Not satisfied with just coffee milk...
Grandpa came home having bought bread again.
However, he had a grumpy look on his face, so I asked him why.
He said, “The bread's expiration date is only until today, it's too short, so I complained at the register.”
Apparently, they told him, “This can't be helped,” and he had to buy it anyway.
What is that! I felt angry, thinking, did they push old stuff on him because he's an old man?
When I looked closely... there was a half-price sticker on the back.
Grandpa, that's a clearance item!
Tuesday, November 5: A story for much later
I received a postcard from a friend about a death in the family, saying, “My father passed away in February, and my mother in August.” Even though they were elderly, I felt sorry for her losing both parents in the same year, so I decided to wrap a larger amount of incense money and send it.
Grandpa said to me, “You're wrapping quite a lot!” so I said something insensitive like,
“Well, maybe it'll come back to me at Grandpa's funeral someday.”
Then,
“Well... that's a story for much later, though!”
Grandpa puffed out his chest, completely unbothered and full of confidence.
Thursday, November 7: Where do you want to go next?
Grandpa loves travel shows on TV and hot spring features. At this time of year, there's no shortage of travel information, such as autumn foliage spots.
When we return from a trip or a drive, I have Grandpa request where he wants to go next.
I thought I'd start preparing for autumn foliage viewing, so I asked him.
“Grandpa, where do you want to go next?”
“You know, Japanet is doing a luxury cruise around Japan!”
“Huh??”
“They say rooms without windows are cheap.”
(Is he serious? He must have misread the travel cost by a digit!)
Tuesday, November 12: It's not getting dark
A while after eating breakfast around 7 o'clock, Grandpa asked me, looking quite restless.
“Hey, it's almost 9 o'clock, but it's not getting dark at all!
That's strange...”
“Grandpa, it's morning right now.”
“Don't lie to me, it's night!”
“You just ate breakfast, didn't you? Melon bread and milk!”
“Wasn't that dinner?”
Grandpa thought for a moment.
“Ah, come to think of it, it was melon bread and milk. Was that breakfast?”
“Melon bread and milk is for breakfast, right!”
“Then, is it morning now?”
“That's right.”
“Do I not have to sleep anymore?”
“You don't have to sleep!”
“Because it's not getting dark...”
Very occasionally, Grandpa gets confused. (I wonder if he's okay...)

The last diary entry concludes with Grandpa's big 2024 mishap. It's written in a story-like style, unexpectedly. (Where did the 3-line diary go?)
Saturday, November 16: Where hands get thrown
That day, we went shopping at a supermarket that is very popular in the neighborhood, but we got the opening time wrong and arrived quite early.
The line before opening here is amazing, and Grandpa and I joined the crowd, which felt like the starting line of a marathon.
We must have been in line for about 30 minutes. Just as it was about to open, an old geezer (sorry for the bad language) came from nowhere and casually stuck himself next to us.
“Isn't that guy trying to cut in line?!”
Grandpa whispered.
No way, with nearly 100 people in line, that shouldn't happen.
Just in case, I closed the gap between me and the lady in front. Grandpa stuck right behind me.
The geezer seemed to be looking for a chance to cut in, and it looked like he was pushing from the side of the lady in front.
The lady immediately used her shopping cart to defend herself against the geezer.
In the tense atmosphere, the staff finally opened the doors and it was opening time.
(I won't let him cut in!)
I also stuck to the lady in front and headed for the entrance, dodging the geezer who was clearly attacking to cut in.
We entered the store just like that.
However, when I looked back, Grandpa wasn't coming in!
“Don't cut in line, you grown adult!!”I heard Grandpa's voice.
When I looked, Grandpa was using his shopping cart to try and push the cutting-in geezer out.
The cutting-in geezer said,
“It's none of your business what I do!”
Grandpa immediately replied,
“You cut in line, so I told you not to!”
“Who do you think you are?”
“What!!!”
The two geezers were on the verge of a scuffle. But I got angry too!
“Hey, you, cutting in line and then talking back, what is that!”
“What did you say!!”
“We've been waiting in line the whole time!”
“I was waiting too” (That's a lie).
“It's not just me,
everyone here has been waiting for 30 minutes!
”With that one remark, the eyes of everyone around gathered on the geezer all at once.Perhaps intimidated, the cutting-in geezer backed away toward the back.
Grandpa and I were finally able to enter the store and start browsing the aisles.
“I was about to throw hands, I'm glad you stopped me.”
Stop it, Grandpa. Even though the opponent was a geezer, he looked at least 20 years younger than you.

Wow~~
Writing a diary in three lines
is really, really difficult!
