The sound of waves is the best background music. Chill time at the newly opened 'ocean-view campsite' in Akune.
Two new campsites have been established in Akune: one on the mountain side and one on the ocean side.
Of the two, I visited the one I call the 'ocean side', Coastal Park RETREAT – RV & Campervan Site site.
It is located about a 12-minute drive (6.6 km) from Akune Station.
Following my visit to the 'mountain side' Ichibanboshi Campsite earlier this month, I ended up using the 'ocean side' campsite in the same month.
Now that it is April, the spring breeze is pleasant, making it the perfect season for camping.
Camping events continue.
This time, it is a duo camping trip with a friend from work.

I will describe the camping experience later, but first, let me introduce the campsite.
Introduction to 'Coastal Park RETREAT'
'Coastal Park RETREAT' is a campsite that had its grand opening in November 2025.
I bought a sticker at the reception, and drawn to its 'exclusive feel' and 'cute pink color', I chose the version that says 'Grand Opening' instead of the regular one.

Since it has been less than half a year since the grand opening, the toilets and showers attached to the administration building, as well as the outdoor kitchen area, were very well-maintained and comfortable.
Furthermore, it is fully equipped with Wi-Fi.
Here are a few points I was happy about.
24-hour showers and toilets
You can use it for 24 hours from check-in to check-out (though consideration for those around you is, of course, necessary). Since the facilities are located indoors and separated by gender, women can also use them with peace of mind.
Spacious shared space
Inside the administration building, there is a space equipped with floor chairs, tables, and air conditioning. During rain or periods of extreme heat or cold, you can temporarily take refuge and catch your breath.
High-functioning kitchen building
Equipped with a roof, lighting, and doors, it is safe to use even on rainy days or at night.
Outdoor shower
Since Wakimoto Beach is nearby, there is a thoughtful setup to wash off sand after enjoying ocean activities like surfing or clam digging.
Basically, the owner manages it personally, and it seems the family lives in the residential space of the administration building.
With measures like a chain across the entrance after sunset, it is a very secure environment. A security camera facing the entrance direction was also installed at the administration building.
Also, thanks to the passion of the dexterous owner, the facilities seem to be evolving every day.
The outdoor shower was also reportedly newly installed to reflect user feedback.
The A-1 site we used this time also had a privacy screen from the road added just recently.
The large grounds are also mowed frequently, focusing on sites with reservations, and that thoughtfulness leads to a comfortable experience.
The number one attraction is the 'ocean'
The biggest appeal of this campsite is, above all, how close it is to the ocean.
If you take the shortcut within the campsite, you can reach Wakimoto Beach in just about one minute.

We didn't do any activities that involved getting into the water this time, but just toasting with canned beers with a friend while gazing at the vast sea and sky—

That alone allowed us to enjoy an indescribably luxurious chill time.
The sound of the waves was just like enjoying a real-life ASMR video on YouTube.
The 'A-1' site we used was close to the ocean, so we could hear the pleasant sound of the waves the entire time we were camping.
A 'Yuru Camp' experience with a first-time camping friend
We checked in just after 2:00 PM and immediately started setting up.
This time, my friend stayed in a tent, and I stayed in my car. We went with a simple style, setting up a tarp centered around the site.
This was my friend's first camping trip since becoming a working adult.
The plan started when they got hooked on the popular series 'Laid-Back Camp' and asked me, 'I really want to try it once!'
So, we decided to go to that newly opened spot in Akune!
My friend didn't have any camping gear at all, but when I told them, 'Please just prepare your own bedding,' they did their research and bought a Coleman sleeping bag and a full set of WORKMAN camping clothes. They are very conscientious.
I lent them my tent, chairs, and other equipment.
I would be very happy if they could try them out as a test and use it as a reference for choosing their own gear in the future.
As for me, I went with a car-camping style to prepare for the rain forecast for the next morning.

The ease of setting up and packing away is truly top-tier.
I felt that as long as it's during the short period before the heat becomes intense, it's a very viable option for sleeping alone.
Shopping and the start of the "feast"
After setting up, I went shopping in a friend's car. We used two nearby stores.
Drugstore Cosmos Wakimoto Branch
Alcohol and snacks (about 3 minutes/1.8km by car from the campsite)
A-Coop Mikasa Branch
Meat for dinner and ingredients for breakfast (across the street from Cosmos)
We finished our shopping quickly and returned to the campsite, starting our toast while it was still bright out!

For our meal, we enjoyed a simple barbecue using the heat from the bonfire.

By the way, firewood is sold on-site for 500 yen per bundle.
I was surprised by the amount; at the time, I was told, "Feel free to use as much as you like."
(Of course, this is based on the premise of using it within the bounds of good manners.)
As it gradually got dark, the light from the bonfire and lanterns enhanced the atmosphere of "adult nightlife" even more.

The moonlight was also very beautiful that day.

Fun times really pass by so quickly; the feast we started around 4:00 PM was already nearing 11:00 PM before I knew it.
It was hard to leave, but we finished putting out the fire and went to bed.
Sunrise after the rain
And the next morning.
It had been raining from the middle of the night until dawn, but it stopped around 7:00 AM, and the sunrise, which I had half-given up on based on the forecast, shone onto the campsite.

Thanks to that, we were able to dry our tent and tarp thoroughly before packing up.
This was another pleasant surprise encountered while camping.
After finishing breakfast and packing up, we decided to head to the beach one more time since we were there.

Although we missed the exact moment of sunrise, the scenery of the coast illuminated by the morning light was also wonderful.
It was not yet 10:00 AM, but many people had already arrived for clam digging, and I was once again reminded of the richness of the sea in Akune.
That concludes my report on our duo camping trip at "Coastal Park Retreat" located on the "ocean side" of Akune.

Akune's campsites, both in the mountains and by the sea, each have their own unique charm.
I hope this article provides some inspiration for your next weekend.
Thank you so much for reading until the end.
