My Favorite Horse: Drop of Light - A Tough Mature Lady
A tough, mature lady who has continued to race actively until the age of 7, Drop of Light (born 2019, mare).
Let me introduce her to you.
◆ Toughness Sister
Her debut was relatively late, in March of her 3-year-old year.
The number of races she has run each year since then is as follows:
3 years old: 5 races (2 wins)
4 years old: 10 races (2 wins)
5 years old: 6 races (1 win)
6 years old: 8 races (1 win)
She has continued to run without any major injuries.
◆ Source of Power
I wondered where such power could reside in her small body of around 440kg, and what the source of it was, so I read various articles.
Then, I came across an article by Tokyo Sports last summer.
The key points regarding her personality and physical constitution are as follows:
・Usually quiet.
・Energetic from the morning, perhaps because she wakes up well.
・Her appetite does not drop even in extreme heat.
・She is good at switching between on and off modes.
She feels like a mature lady who knows how to relieve stress well.
◆ Race Record
It was at the end of her 4-year-old year that she won in the 3-win class. The 15 races up to that point were, so to speak, Season 1.
When she challenged sprinting in the summer of her 5-year-old year, she achieved her first graded stakes victory in the CBC Sho, guided by jockey Kohei's superb riding.
Incidentally, this victory was also the first graded stakes win for the Yuichi Fukunaga stable.
Then, she achieved her second graded stakes victory in the Turquoise Stakes at the end of her 6-year-old year.
The neck-and-neck battle before the finish line in this race was hot and intense.
Her competitiveness also seems to be quite significant.
◆ Still Running
Since the summer of her 6-year-old year, she has had good results, except for a major defeat in the Sprinters Stakes.
CBC Sho: 4th place
Keio Hai Autumn Handicap: 2nd place
Turquoise Stakes: Winner
After she won the Turquoise Stakes, I thought she would retire on that high note.
But surprise, surprise. I was shocked when it was announced that she would continue her career and aim for the Victoria Mile.
In 2025, she also performed well in her first race, the Hankyu Hai, finishing 3rd.
Season 2 continues to shine brighter with each passing day.
