SASAMAKE STUDIO

SASAMAKE STUDIO is a makeup salon where you can receive lessons from Kazunori Sasaki, who is active in beauty magazines like VOCE and has 40,000 followers on Instagram.

SASAMAKE STUDIO is highly praised by so many of my followers... and as the representative of the National "Too Easy to Sway" League, my desire to go there boiled over faster than an electric kettle...?
In no time at all, the desire♪ Tefal♪♪ (Huh?) (Let's turn back time...)

With that said, I went for a full makeup service, and it was so good that I also went for a makeup lesson. This time, I'd like to focus on introducing the makeup lesson!

The makeup studio is located near Shibuya, the makeup lesson takes an hour and a half, and the price is 35,000 yen.

When you arrive at the shop, you start with a consultation while doing skincare.
During the consultation, they asked several questions focused on my lifestyle and daily makeup, such as "Will your hair color stay this way for a while?", "Is your fringe always like this?", and "Do you always get lash perms?"—questions that made the Akira Ikegami inside me want to say, "That's a great question..."

This time, I ordered the "Leave it to you, customized makeup"!
As a proud Japanese Twitter addict, I had previously seen on X that "people often order the 'leave it to you' option at Sasa Make Studio," so I channeled my inner Char and thought, "Show me your true power..."

But you know, I'm super, super, super anxious about leaving my makeup to a male makeup artist...
The reason is that when I've left my makeup to male makeup artists in the past, they've finished it with surprisingly natural makeup a few times...
So, I was prepared for that this time too, but oh my, it was actually really good...

I felt it when I had my makeup done last time, but as expected of someone who does makeup for VOCE, they really give you "trendy makeup that suits you." In my case, it was soft eyebrows, solid lower eyelid makeup, and polarized blush. It felt like they were customizing and teaching me the kind of makeup that often goes viral on X.
Is there anyone in the beauty Twitter community who hates this kind of makeup? No way!! (NO MORE peer pressure)

Also, they are incredibly good at lower eyelid makeup. I've been to many makeup salons, but other than Korean-style salons, there might not be any other salon that puts this much effort into lower eyelid makeup.
Since SASAMAKE himself also studies Korean makeup, you can get a nice mix of Japanese trends and Korean techniques, and I thought, "I bet a lot of people will get addicted to this!"

As for the content of the lesson, I felt it was closer to "teaching you what suits you" rather than "teaching you makeup techniques." Things like, "Since your current hair color is ash-toned, it emphasizes the redness in your skin, so we'll use a base to cancel that out," or "Since the distance between your eyes and eyebrows is short, let's not put much color on the upper eyelids and do heavy makeup on the lower eyelids."
It's not a PD diagnosis at all, but because they redefine the makeup that suits the "current" you, I think people who like PD and fashion will find it spot-on and fun.

Also, at Sasa Make Studio, you are allowed to record video during the makeup session, so I thought it was reassuring to be able to look back on the makeup when I got home!

I think people of all ages would enjoy going, but personally, I think it would be super fun for trend-conscious people in their 20s and 30s who mainly get beauty information from social media, as they would have an 'aha!' moment thinking, 'I learned this in Shinken Zemi!' while learning what kind of makeup suits them best!

AVOIR MAKEUP

AVOIR is a makeup salon run by makeup artist Haruka, who has over 27,000 followers on Instagram.

To describe Haruka's makeup in one word, it is dignified and beautiful. When I first saw it, I was shocked, thinking, 'This is the strong woman makeup that women aspire to...!'

I am Oidon. A woman who grew up watching Kim Possible and Fujiko Mine from Lupin, and who became obsessed with Vermouth from Conan as an adult.... The only things I, a mere bumbling office worker, need are shrewdness and mystery...!

~That's it, let's go to a makeup lesson.~

And so, Oidon attempted to book a makeup lesson, but Haruka's makeup lessons are so popular that I spent about three months repeating the days of thinking, 'I can't get a spot at all, lol!' (with teary eyes).

Haruka's makeup lessons are truly popular, and most slots are filled within minutes of booking opening... After all that, I finally succeeded in booking a cancellation slot and was able to receive this precious opportunity...

Hey... it was the best... It was so great that I even attended the Christmas party held at a later date.

The shop is located in Takadanobaba, and the makeup lesson took 150 minutes and cost 26,000 yen!

On the day, I visited the makeup salon wearing makeup, not with a bare face! After being guided to my seat, I filled in my information on a counseling sheet, and the counseling began.

The counseling itself was amazing; they spent about 20 minutes asking me about the cosmetics I usually use, my skin concerns, makeup issues, and the image I wanted to achieve today!

From there, I thought the lesson would start after removing my makeup, but I was very surprised when they started by critiquing the makeup I had done myself that day...! They would go that far for me...!?

'For Oidon's makeup, it would be lovely to layer a little light blue glitter on the eyeshadow for a sense of translucence💕' ← What is that, I LOVE IT....

At other makeup salons, they rarely touch upon the makeup you arrive in, and often just have the makeup artist check the vibe before removing it, so my heart skipped a beat...🥺💕

Once the critique of my makeup for the day was finished, I removed my makeup, did my skincare, and entered the makeup lesson. The makeup lesson was my favorite type, where Haruka did my full-face makeup while explaining it, and I was free to ask anything!

My request for the day was classic red lip makeup. When I mentioned that I was also torn about the Swae makeup menu, she suggested, 'Then let's do a makeup look that incorporates a Swae-like vibe too! (Goddess),' so we did the eyebrows in a Swae style and the other parts in a classic style. Since she explained my facial features while applying the makeup, I was able to understand why I should apply color in certain places and how to make my features stand out more while hearing tips for improvement!!

Well, the finished look was a version of myself more handsome than I had ever seen before...! It had the vibe of 'an adult that adults aspire to be,' and I thought there must be many people looking for this!

After that, once I got home, I was sent a makeup sheet. I was truly surprised by how incredibly detailed the sheet was. It included before-and-after photos, close-ups of my eyes, and a three-page explanation detailing which cosmetics were used where, and how everything was applied.

To summarize my thoughts on the entire makeup lesson,

Everything was great.
It was so good... so good... that I, Oidon, also known as the garish fairy, ended up attending the Christmas party held at a later date___ (Apologies to the white fairy) (I am now certain that I will lose followers on X__)

The Christmas party consisted of multiple makeup artists applying makeup to general participants, followed by finishing touches by Haruka, and then a lunch party!
Since the makeup artist originally scheduled to be in charge of me had to cancel on the day of the event, Haruka took care of me instead.

Since the makeup I had done last time was a "classic red lip look," I asked for a "sweet and spicy look" for the Christmas party, and she even applied false eyelashes for the finishing touch!
I mean, it looked sooooo good. It was like a casual, dolly, Thai-style makeup look. I was super, super satisfied with how she brought out the roundness of my facial features while keeping the look from being too sweet!

Actually, while the makeup lesson being wonderful was one reason I attended Haruka's Christmas party, the biggest reason was that I was curious about what kind of people actually come to this salon.
And what I felt was that Haruka's lesson is the most "accommodating lesson" out of all the makeup salons I have been to so far.

Most of the people attending this Christmas party were in their 40s to 50s.
Everyone kept saying things like, "I've only ever spent 5 minutes on makeup and didn't understand it at all, so I went to a lesson," or "I don't usually dress up or wear makeup, but I saw the makeup photos on Haruka's Instagram, wanted to be like that, and gathered the courage to go." It was impressive to hear everyone say at the end, "I'm glad I went. I can do my makeup now!"
The consultation, the lesson content, and the makeup sheet are all truly thorough.

I definitely want to go to the lesson by Haruka, the makeup artist who turns all of humanity into handsome women, again...!

Miyu personal makeup salon

Miyu personal makeup salon is a makeup salon run from her home by Miyu, who has worked on various advertising makeup projects and as an instructor at makeup vocational schools. The makeup lesson lasts 100 minutes and costs 15,000 yen.

Actually, this salon is in Hiyoshi, which is surprisingly far from my home, so I agonized for about 3 days over whether to go or not lol, but the salon's makeup menu is very attractive and Miyu's background is amazing, so I decided to go! To conclude, I am so glad I went～～!!!!

Before I get into the makeup report, I'll show you... Miyu's amazing background...

No, seriously lol, it's so amazing I died! I'm going to come back to life after exceeding my limits lol (What are you talking about?)
As expected of someone with such a background, she really understands "what the person being made up is looking for," and there were many menus that met our desperate needs, such as "Makeup Debut Lesson for Middle and High School Students" and "Makeup Re-learning Lesson for Adults."

With that said, I visited the shop with a twisted smile that would make even Pennywise tremble with excitement.

When I arrived at the makeup salon, the counseling started immediately. Since I had been told, "It's optional, but we recommend you bring your favorite cosmetics!", I brought my current top-tier cosmetics and asked for a look that would make me look great using the cosmetics I already own.
No, I'm really sorry for always ordering a glamorous makeup look at every salon I go to; I'm under a curse where I'll die if I don't look glamorous... (Big lie)

When I shared my skin concerns, they presented me with several primers and foundations, and once the explanation of those cosmetics was finished, the makeup session began. Let the battle commence...!

The makeup lesson wasn't the type where I also do half-face makeup; the flow was that Miyu-san would explain the points in detail while applying makeup to my entire face!

The actual makeup was based on my facial features and personal color, and the lesson progressed with her verbalizing why she chose certain colors or used specific techniques, such as, 'Oidon-san, you have deep-set eyes and your eye socket is this deep, so it's better not to apply eyeshadow too broadly!' which made it easy for me to digest!

Also, since it was a salon with many makeup menus for beginners, there was a moment where I thought, 'Well, can you satisfy this makeup-obsessed monster??' (followed by acrobatic apologies and sliding prostration) (please, go ahead and scold me), but it seemed like the lesson content was tailored to each person's preferences!

For a troublesome otaku like me, she taught me makeup methods that the brands of cosmetics I brought are currently focusing on, and she kindly explained why eye palettes have been lacking dark shades lately—a response to the most annoying complaint in the world—making it a makeup lesson that even a twisted otaku like me could grin at.

Once again, it was a wonderful day where I was able to realize and verbalize what I 'like' about my makeup.
It was also a day where I understood again why I like 'glam' makeup so much, even though I'm the type who likes it. I realized that based on my personal color and face type, 'glam' makeup suits me, and my understanding and enjoyment of my own makeup have deepened even further...!

Also, during the makeup lesson, I asked about makeup lessons for middle and high school students in a way that was honestly creepy!!!
Yes, yes. I'm sure after I left, Miyu-san must have thought, 'Why was that person so obsessed with makeup lessons for middle and high school students... scary...' I am very sorry for that.

Surprisingly, middle school students make up a significant portion of the makeup debut lessons, and they often come with their parents.
Since it's a makeup debut lesson for middle schoolers, they don't teach heavy, intense makeup; instead, they decide on the lesson content based on the student's wishes and the parents' opinions, such as 'really natural and basic makeup' or 'I like trends, so teach me mainly about aegyo-sal (under-eye fat).

Oh my goodness, that's so nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone like me!!!! Come on!!!! I didn't know how to do makeup, and in the past, my parents told me,
'Oh, so yesterday you were Cirque du Soleil, and today you're Takarazuka? Are you going to be Gekidan Shiki tomorrow?' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, you know, not knowing the right balance and repeating the cycle of looking like a 'Hyottoko' mask and Cirque du Soleil is the real thrill of a makeup debut, but
that aside, you don't want to create a dark history like I did, right!!!!!

Besides that, it seems many high school students who are about to enter university also come.
I think that's a good idea...! I wouldn't want to make my university debut with a face like Cirque du Soleil like I did...!!! It makes a lot of sense!!!!! (sobbing)

After I got home from the lesson, I looked in the mirror and my skin looked so beautiful that I smirked at myself in a way that I couldn't show anyone else.
Pennywise surely would have run away barefoot because I was too terrifying!🤩

When I learned of the existence of this makeup salon, I thought, 'Huh...? Have I finally started seeing the strong hallucinations typical of an otaku...?'

Believe it or not, at this makeup salon, you can get one-on-one makeup lessons from an artist who is in charge of Minami Tanaka's makeup.

I understand, everyone please calm down Vaokvnfaoifhnawi!! (First of all, you calm down) Lessons from the makeup artist in charge of that Minami Tanaka—the 'azato' (cunningly cute) Minami who, it's no exaggeration to say, governs all the phenomena of Japanese beauty...? Of course I'm going...

So! Oidon, representative of the crazy otaku! I went there!!

This time, the person in charge of the lesson wasTomoko Yamashitasan, who has been in charge of makeup for Minami Tanaka, Misato Ugaki, and Sayumi Michishige, and at one point was responsible for about 80% of the makeup in the magazine 'Bijin Hyakka'.

That means... if Yamashita-san does my makeup, I'm also a member of the Bijin Hyakka models...? (Stop it) (If you keep making such slips of the tongue, you'll be exiled from the country soon) I thought as I visited the shop.

When I arrived at the shop, I filled out a simple counseling sheet, and the full-scale counseling began.
After explaining the makeup I do daily and the cosmetics I use, they did my skincare while asking about what kind of makeup I want to do and what kind of concerns I have.

I told them, 'My concern is that my skin gets dry and flaky. I want to do glamorous makeup, but other than that, I'll leave it up to you.'
Because, you know!!!!! Once you're in this person's hands, anyone can look like a Bijin Hyakka model!!!! (Not really) (Very much not really)

The makeup lesson involved having Yamashita-san (the makeup artist) do one half of my face, and then I would do the other half myself.
It was super, super, super, super, super!!! Educational~~~~~~!!

'Oidon-san, it's better not to draw lines past the outer corners of your eyes or the ends of your eyebrows,' and 'Since your face has this shape, apply shading to this bone, but definitely do not apply shading to your temples'—they taught me everything based on my own face.
They don't just copy-paste popular makeup looks; they truly teach you what works for 'this person's face.'

And surprisingly, they kept pulling out affordable drugstore cosmetics. So many things appeared that made me think, 'Is this cosmetic this amazing!?' or 'I feel like even I could master this!' The Cezanne products introduced that day were all successfully collected at a Matsumoto Kiyoshi I stopped by on my way home.

The makeup was practical, the teaching method was precise, and they used a wide variety of cosmetics from drugstore brands to department store brands, so everything was a learning experience. But what I found most 'amazing' was Yamashita-san's 'crafting of cunning, glossy skin.'
They didn't use obvious colors, and the overall atmosphere was soft, but by adding a nuance of pink to the eyebrows and a blood-like color to the cheeks, they created a 'cuteness that isn't overdone.'
Also, when they created 'glossy skin without any greasiness' even though they didn't use highlighter, it was like an episode of 'Sekai Fushigi Hakken!'
By adding solid eye makeup to this 'skin with a bit of cunning and effortless charm,' a 'makeup look that seems to have indescribable elegance and sophistication, yet is somehow elegant and cute' is completed.

Looking at the finished makeup, I thought this:
'It's too beautiful... it's like... Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo...' (If you don't know this meme, look up 'Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo'♪)

And actually, there was one more thing I was looking forward to in this lesson, which was 'having Yamashita-san pick out lip colors that suit me.'
Ever since I booked the makeup lesson, I had been stalking Yamashita-san online every night and thought, 'This person is just too good at choosing lip colors that create a graceful impression...' They are so good at taking the noble impression created by the eyes and eyebrows and softening it with the color of the lips to pull it all together.
I was excited about that, but perhaps they understood without me even saying it, as they had me try about four different types of lip makeup and even taught me colors like, 'I don't think it matches today's outfit, but if you wear black clothes, this kind of lip color would also be good.' Yes! Fall in love!

The duration was 2 hours and the cost was 26,000 yen, but it was an experience worth more than the price.
I want to go again~~~~~. Lately, I've been having a growing desire to have dark hair, so when I dye my hair dark, I want to go back and have them teach me which lip colors suit me again.

You might be thinking, 'A lesson from someone who does Tanaka Minami-san's makeup...', but when I asked Yamashita-san, it seems there are many people who say, 'I want to learn how to do makeup beautifully in a short time' or 'I'm clumsy and bad at makeup.'
