[SW2.5 Scenario] Abyss Hors d'oeuvre ~Elvirea Salad with a Twist of Lemon~

Cook, a chef residing in a corner of the water city of Harves, was troubled. He was captivated by the allure of monster cuisine he had heard about in the Doden region... He didn't want to just imitate it; he wanted to bring out a 'Harves-like quality!' As he scoured through literature, he came across some fascinating information: 'Elvirea from the [Sunspot Sea] is delicious.'

1. Introduction

This scenario is intended for advanced players at levels 8-9. It is designed to be played by 4-5 players in about 6 hours. As it has not been playtested yet, it would be a great help if the GM could handle things flexibly during the actual session.
Basically, you can play this with Rulebooks I, II, III, and Monstrous Lore. While some data from the doujinshi 'Planes Theorgia' is used, it is possible to substitute it with other materials.

At the Harves adventurer's guild [Dragon Fire], many requests are brought in today as well. Among them, the PCs find a request that catches their attention.
'We want you to find the nest of the Elvirea in the [Sunspot Sea].'

Note that in this scenario, notations like [~ Check 7] mean that an achievement value of that number is required for that check. If the check is successful, you will obtain information or other items.
Additionally, please be aware that the dungeon itself is a single path. There are no branches at all. Please understand this before playing.

*Scenario partially revised on 2025/11/16

The information from this point on is for the Game Master (GM). If you are planning to participate as a player, please refrain from reading.

3. Scenario Background/NPC List

Scenario Background
The client for this request, Cook Do (Human/Male/28), usually works as a chef at the Zamuel Academy of Sages. Recently, while traveling in the Doden region, he encountered a station attendant named "Romilda" who claimed to have eaten demon cuisine. She spoke passionately about the dish and shared stories related to cooking, such as an event called the "Great Railway Festival" and a gourmet country known as the "Magnoa Grassland Nation."
As a result, Cook was inspired. He decided to use the "Ingredient Preservation Tag" he received from Romilda to try and create demon cuisine, and thus he put out a request to adventurers.
Incidentally, it is completely beside the point that Elbion, the boss of this [Abyss of the Abyss], is a "food lover" and is trying to eat the adventurers who visit.

NPC List

Cook Do (Human/Male/26 years old)
A chef at the [Zamuel Academy of Sages]. Originally a student, he eventually became captivated by cooking and found employment in the kitchen. His recent travels taught him even more about the depths of culinary arts.

4. Scenario Text

4.1. At [Dragon Fire]

The adventurer's guild [Dragon Fire] is filled with noise. This guild, where various adventurers belong, has many requests posted on its walls. An adventurer who has no urgent business and is feeling idle suddenly notices one particular request.

[Request Name]: Capture of the Large Elbirea
[Client]: Cook Do
[Reward]: 5000G per person
I am requesting the capture of a large Elbirea at the Elbirea nest located in the "Sunspot Sea Area." It is a dangerous mission, but I ask for your cooperation.

Once the GM reads the request form, the roleplay part begins.
Encourage the PCs to discuss whether or not to accept it. Also, if they accept the request, they can receive the client's address from the receptionist. Details can be heard there.

If they head to the client's address, please proceed to the next scene.

4.2. Details of the Request

The client's address was a dormitory at the [Zamuel Academy of Sages] in southern Harves. After speaking with the guard, a man with sharp, upturned eyes arrived after a while.

He is the client, Cook. He provides the following information in response to the conversation:
- My name is Cook. I'm just a humble chef.
- During my trip the other day, I got some interesting information from a foodie station attendant I met.
- It seems she has actually eaten "demon cuisine."
- Fortunately, I also received a magic item to recreate it.
- I want you to use this to catch the freshest Elbirea.
- According to a professor I know, there is a place in part of the Sunspot Sea Area where there are unusually many Elbirea. I recommend heading there.
- Preparations for the ship are mostly complete. You should be able to depart once you head to the port.

After providing the above information, he will give you three [Ingredient Preservation Tags]. If you use the tags on a demon after the battle ends, you can preserve the body for about a week. Also, ingredients with this tag attached will shrink to palm size. Please handle this loosely when the GM or PLs are dealing with it.

That is all the information. Please proceed to the scene where you arrive at the Sunspot Sea Area.

4.3 At the Sunspot Sea Area

The PCs made thorough preparations and came to the Sunspot Sea Area by renting a ship. As a result of about two days of exploration, they succeeded in identifying the area where the Elbirea are. It seems the [Abyss of the Abyss] was the cause... Before their eyes, the [Abyss of the Abyss] opens its mouth wide in the sea. A large Elbirea might also be here.

The PCs have finished their various explorations and have arrived right in front of this [Abyss of the Abyss]. If you want to dramatize the PCs' adventure, you can roll 2d6 and assume they had the adventure as described in the table.

When the adventurers steel themselves and dive into the [Abyss of the Abyss], they emerge into a strange space that is neither underwater nor a cave.
Above their heads, a black, eerie light flickers, and something red is spread out under their feet. It has a sweet scent and is sticky and viscous. The walls are the color of flour and are slightly damp. Incidentally, it tastes sweet if you eat it.
As you proceed, the scene changes.

4.4. Dessert

As the PCs advance, a savory aroma is suddenly carried on the breeze. Continuing forward, they find a small room opening up, and before them sits a gentleman sipping tea and nibbling on sweets. "Oh? Are you adventurers?"

This blatantly suspicious gentleman is a demon in disguise named "Three-Star Hunter" Gradandam. (Details in Planas-Ceorgia, p. 95)
He is a higher-ranking species of the demon Barakampuku (Do-Haku p. 127) and is the teacher of the current boss, the "food-loving" Elvireon. He has come to this [Abyss Demon Domain] to check the quality of his student's cooking. Note that since the cooking received a failing grade, he has ordered a redo and is taking a short break in this room.

Since he is here as a guest, he will not fight in this scenario regardless of what the PCs do. However, if there is anyone among the PCs who is skilled at cooking, he might lick his lips and take an interest in them. In any case, you can hear the following information from him.
Note that he always speaks in a cheerful tone.
・Hmm! I am just a guest, I only came because my humble student asked me to look at his cooking!
・This "très bien" place has nothing to do with me. Even if you were to fight me, it would be meaningless!
・I am looking for a "delicious chef"!
・I had hoped he would become one too, but... the fact that you have come means it is time to go!!
・I shall take my leave! Also, this Demon Domain is modeled after a full-course meal! If you are interested, you should try eating the ingredients on each floor. You might enjoy it a little!!
・À bientôt!! (See you again!)

With that, he vanishes from the room. Note that if the PCs eat the tea and sweets left on the table, they will receive a +1 bonus to Fortitude and Willpower checks for one day.

That is all for this room.

4.5. Meat Dish (Entrée)

A stifling heat drifts through the air. The room the adventurers have reached is a kitchen surrounded by brick. In the center of the room, a large iron plate is placed, and meat is being grilled. The ones cooking it are... demons.

In this room, demons are cooking a meat dish. The demons are a Grunnel (ML p. 198) and a Zalbard (III, p. 428). You cannot tell from their appearance, but they are using a shipwrecked human fisherman as the ingredient to make the meat dish.
If you wish to launch a surprise attack, please perform a [Stealth Check: 15]. If successful, you will gain a +2 bonus to the initiative check.

Front line
・Grunnel x1 (Sword Fragment +2 in torso)
・Zalbard x1

Tactics: The Grunnel will alternate between using magic and magic-powered strikes. The Zalbard will relentlessly use "Breath of Fire" on the weakened PCs.

Once the PCs defeat the demons, the heat in this room will dissipate, and it will become safe to explore. It is possible to search the surroundings. The following checks can be performed.

[Exploration Check: 14]
If successful, you can discover [Gigant Boar Confit (50G/Red A)], which can be used as preserved food, and the [Trident (Spear A-Rank)] that the fisherman was using.

[Literature Check: 15]
If successful, you discover a cooking recipe. It appears to be a steak recipe.
"Add blood sauce to 'Prime Fillet (Bipedal Sheep)' and stir-fry thoroughly for 15 minutes"
"When processing the meat, pound the whole thing to tenderize it"
"If the sliced meat is left to rest on the fourth floor for 2 days, it will be perfectly aged"
If you succeed on a [Perception Check: 13], you will realize that the ingredient is human.
The recipe itself is valuable and can be handed over to the guild for about 300G, but let the PCs decide what to do.

That is all for this room.

4.6. Sorbet (Palate Cleanser)

The room was cold, a complete change from before. Blocks of ice were placed here and there, with chunks of meat visible inside them. In the center of the room was a giant plate, and ice cream was piled on top of it.

This room is an ice cellar. You can perform the following checks.

[Anomaly Detection Check: 16]
If successful, you realize that countless Grassrunners are embedded inside the ice cream in the center, and their faces are twisted in agony. If you use a [Food Preservation Tag], the ice cream can be shrunk and stored in your pocket. Although they are dead, you can deliver their belongings to their bereaved families. In that case, an additional reward of 1000G per PC will be generated.

[Treasure Appraisal Check: 14]
If successful, you realize that "Magic Crystals (5 points)" have formed in various places on the walls.
The party obtains 1d3 Magic Crystals.

That is all for this room.

4.7. Poisson (Fish Dish)

The next room was surrounded by massive amounts of water. Above, deep water like that of the abyss stretched out, and occasionally, the shadows of something could be seen crossing. On the surrounding walls, one could see the bones of giant fish and the fossils of distorted crustaceans.

This room serves as a place to discard bones. Also, the water is floating in mid-air due to magic, and there is nothing to hinder entry or exit. You can perform the following checks.

[Exploration Check: 12]
From within the bone pile, one 'Magic-Infused Bone (250G/Red A)' is found.

[Exploration Check: 14]
You find a table and a fish dish hidden as if by the pile of bones. It appears to be white fish stewed in broth. By eating it, you gain a +1 bonus to Accuracy checks for one day.

[Danger Sense Check: 15]
A giant sea serpent attacked from within the water!
If the check fails, you receive a -2 penalty to the Initiative check. The battle begins.

Frontline
・Sea Serpent x1 (Sword Fragment +1 on all parts)

Tactics: The head alternates between 'Fangs' and 'Flame Breath'. The torso attacks a random target.
Since the sea serpent has most of its body submerged in water, there are no penalties on land. The PCs can also attack without any particular penalties.

Once the battle ends, you can safely proceed forward. This concludes this scene.

4.7. Soup

The next room was bright, unlike the previous ones. Furthermore, the climate was very warm and suitable for resting. In the center was a beautiful fountain, from which corn potage was bubbling up. The surroundings were filled with a soft aroma, whetting the appetites of the exhausted PCs...

Here, the PCs can decide whether to drink this corn potage. Wooden cups are even carefully placed on the edge of the fountain.
If they do not drink, they proceed directly to the boss battle. If they do drink, they gain the same effect as having slept for 6 hours (20% HP recovery, full MP recovery). Also, racial features that cannot be used unless a day has passed become usable.

[Exploration Check: 13]
You find a note dropped near the fountain. It seems to belong to a scholar or researcher.
It explains the giant shrimp demon. During the boss battle, you gain a +2 bonus to the Monster Knowledge check for 'Elvireon'.

This concludes this room.

4.8.Hors d'oeuvre (Appetizer)
In the deepest part of the [Abyss Domain], you finally found the Elvireas!
However, something is wrong. They are sitting on top of a fresh, cut salad, not moving a muscle. As you wonder about this, an angry voice is heard.
'Gah! You fools! This will never reach the dish my master desires!!' The owner of that voice is peeling the salad and the skin of the Elvireas with large shears. Given the giant body and the behavior, it is not hard to imagine that this is the master of the [Abyss Domain].
'Sniff, sniff... Hmm...? I smell meat.
Who brought meat into this appetizer room!! I will not forgive you!!'
And so, the presence of the adventurers was revealed. Once it has come to this, battle will be unavoidable.

Frontline
・Elvireon x1 (Sword Fragment +2 on all parts)
・Elvirea x (Number of PCs)
Elvireon is in Planes Theorgia, page 91. Elvirea is in I, page 469.

Tactics: The Elvireon's head repeats 'Shrimp Dust Formation -> Attack with Jaw -> Shrimp Maze Formation -> Attack with Jaw -> Shrimp Turn Formation -> Attack with Jaw'. The chest performs the ritual if there is an Elvirea that meets the conditions for the 'Ritual of the Decapod', otherwise it attacks with claws. The abdomen always performs 'Trip'.
The Elvireas attack a random target.

If the Elvireon is defeated, the Elvireas are also immediately defeated and vanish. This is because they were beings summoned by the Elvireon, and their control was completely held by it.

If the battle ends safely, you can preserve the Elvireon and the Elvireas using the 'Food Preservation Tag'. If you can bring this back to the client, the scenario ends.
The PCs can proceed further to the room with the [Abyss Core].

4.9. Amuse (Small Dish)

You finally reached the innermost part. There, the [Abyss Core] was enshrined. Furthermore, in the vicinity, there were bottles filled with fragrant wine. Would it be worth money if you took some?

If you destroy the [Abyss Core], you can escape safely. Also, if you succeed in an [Appraisal Check: 15] on the surrounding alcohol, you can bring back a single item worth 1000G.

Once the PCs escape from the domain, they will return to the client. Please proceed to the next scene.

4.10. Ending

"I see. So that's how you managed to return safely."
The adventurers returned safely to Harves, and their client, Cook, welcomed them back with joy. They had already handed over the ingredients and received their reward.
"Now then, I wonder how this dish made with demons will turn out."
He said this as he prepared the dish using the demons, and chose the PCs as the first guests to commemorate the occasion. The hors d'oeuvre Cook had prototyped was an Elbirea salad with lemon. It looked just like the one they had seen in the Demon Domain.

"Hehe, the literature said this was the best. It's a recipe from the culinary master Gradandam, so there's no mistake...!!"

Hearing these slightly unsettling words, the adventurers enjoyed the meal.
It was... an unforgettable taste.
How they react is up to the PCs, but regardless, it was an unforgettable taste.

This concludes Sword World 2.5 "Abyss Hors d'oeuvre ~Elbirea Salad with Lemon~". Thank you for your hard work.

5. Results

Experience Points: 1580 points (assuming 4 players)
Reward: 4000G + Loot
Honor Points: 10d6
Growth: 1 time

6. Afterword

Sodowa!! For those who are new, nice to meet you, I am DKP!!
When I got home today and checked Twitter, I saw that the scenario project I wanted to submit to was happening today!? I started writing the scenario in a hurry, and 2 hours and 32 minutes have passed!! I managed to finish it!

This scenario is participating in a wonderful project called "#TRPGScenarioHorsdOeuvre". Without the organizers, this work would never have been born. I would like to thank the management team for giving me such a wonderful opportunity.

Also, if it weren't for the doujinshi "Planes Seorgia", this scenario linking it to hors d'oeuvres would not have been born. I received a lot of inspiration from that doujinshi. Thank you very much, Rin-san, for creating it.

It was a rushed writing process, but I hope this scenario adds a little color to your adventures in Raxia. If you enjoyed it, I would be very happy to hear your thoughts! (Honestly, I think there are many holes in it. I would like to test play and revise it later.)

Well then, have a good Sodowa life!
