The Story of How PowerPoint Became a "Picture Book Workshop"—Creating a Mini-Book with Copilot × AI Images
Good morning.
I am Digi-Sashimi, an efficiency expert in the IT field 🍣
The other day, I was creating several AI images in PowerPoint, and a thought suddenly occurred to me.
"Couldn't these images become a collection of works if I added a story to them?"
I tried it out, and it really worked. And what's more, I did it using only PowerPoint and Copilot.
This time, I will introduce how to create a "mini-book" using PowerPoint × Copilot.
What is a mini-book?
In this article, a mini-book refers to a collection of slide works composed of images + short story text. It is close to what you might imagine as a picture book or a photo essay.
You might think, "A picture book in PowerPoint?" but current PowerPoint is equipped with Copilot (an AI assistant), and you can use two different types of AI.
-
Basic model... Handles all general tasks in PowerPoint as instructed
AI: Claude Opus 4.8 / GPT-5.5, etc.
-
Image model... A model for analyzing and generating images
AI: GPT-Image-2, MAI Image-2.5, etc.

The point is that you can combine these two within a single PowerPoint file.
This time's theme: "The Moonlit Coast"
In a series I am also posting on Substack, I generated images with the theme of "The Moon and the Night Coast."

When I added fantasy elements, the moon became unusually large. Plus, because my prompt was sloppy, they are all full moons🤣
At this point, it was just slides lined up with images. This is where the real work begins.
Having Copilot write the story
PowerPoint's Copilot isn't just for image generation.
Its primary functions are actually slide editing, structuring, and adding text.
This time, I used this power to transform "slides with only images" into a "mini-book of images + story."
I chose Claude Opus 4.8 for story generation. It is a model with a proven reputation for weaving stories🙏
Prompt used
その際、ノートペインに気刺されている内容を参考にする💡 Tip:In the prompt, I clearly specified "one image = one slide," "story format," and "unified color scheme." Copilot returns results closer to your intent the more specific your instructions are.
The completed slides

After giving the instructions, I waited while doing other work as usual. ...Or rather, I forgot I had given the instructions, and when I realized it, it was already finished🤣
A scenario was added to each image, creating a story about walking on a beach at night. As for the English text, Copilot suggested "Shall I add this?" so I just had it added.
It would be even easier to read if I could display it as a two-page spread, but I am genuinely surprised that it turned out this well with such a sloppy prompt.
4 Benefits of Creating Mini-Books in PowerPoint
I am still exploring, but here are the benefits I feel at this moment.
-
🧠 Choose Your AI Model:
You can use different models for their strengths, such as Claude Opus 4.8 for the story and GPT-Image-2 for the images.
-
🖼️ Batch Generate Images:
You can create a large number of images with the same theme and world view all at once.
-
✏️ Freedom for Additional Editing:
Changing fonts, adjusting layouts, adding shapes...
This is the strength of it being PowerPoint.
-
♾️ No Need to Worry About Generation Limits:
With the enterprise version of Copilot, there is no credit consumption for this type of usage.
Therefore, you can use it without hesitation, without worrying about the number of images or credits.
In a nutshell—
You can combine the writing power of Claude Opus 4.8 with the image capabilities of GPT-Image-2, all within a single PowerPoint file.
I feel this is its greatest appeal.
It has its quirks, but once you get used to it, it's a reliable partner💪
Other potential uses
Beyond mini-books, this "image + story" combination seems highly versatile.
📖 Hobby collections: Add narration to illustrations or photos to create a portfolio
🏢 Internal introductory materials: For department introductions for new employees or project review slides
📱 Content for social media: Export slides in PNG format for carousel posts
Once you let go of the fixed idea that "PowerPoint = work presentations," it's actually a surprisingly fun tool to play with.
Conclusion
In this post, I introduced the process of creating a "mini-book from images" using PowerPoint × Copilot.
Honestly, I'm still in the middle of researching it myself. But with Copilot now integrated into PowerPoint, I truly feel that it is no longer just a tool for making presentation slides.
Image generation → adding a story → adjusting the layout.
Having this entire flow completed within a single app was more comfortable than I expected.
If you are someone who thinks "PowerPoint is only for work," please give it a try at least once🍣
Next time, I plan to explore ways to further polish this mini-book.
Feel free to send any questions or feedback anytime😆
