Assumptions in Pedestrian-Priority Behavior - The Essence of Ensuring Safety ① +
Imagine a situation where a single pedestrian is waiting to cross at a 'crosswalk without traffic lights🚥' on a busy main road🚸.
If there were traffic lights, you would wait until they turned green, but here, you would likely end up waiting until the flow of cars breaks. This is because, stopping intermittent car traffic leads to disrupting the smoothness of traffic, and objectively speaking, it tends to have many disadvantages⤵for everyone.
That said, since there is a crosswalk here, many people recognize it as being 'pedestrian-priority'☝. In fact, there are drivers who will stop to let pedestrians cross when they see them.
Then, a route bus🚌 traveling from the right stopped in front of the crosswalk. The pedestrian began to cross, following that gesture --- .
Now,what points can be raised regarding what can be said or what is concerning in this situation.
◆◈◆◈◆◈◆◈◆◈◆
The first thing that comes to mind is, 'The bus driver is kind.' Even though it is pedestrian-priority, the reality is that it is difficult to get cars to stop in places where traffic is intermittent. In that sense, it could be called a kind consideration.
Alternatively, there is also the view that 'it is an inconsiderate bus to stop without thinking about the following cars even though there is a line of traffic.' As mentioned above, traffic flow decreases. If the brakes are applied hard, the driver of the car behind will be startled😫. They might rear-end you.
Furthermore, the story does not end there🙅.
In fact, this pedestrian is actually being exposed to danger.
◆◈◆◈◆◈◆◈◆◈◆
You have the bus stop for you and start crossing the crosswalk. However, there is no guarantee that a vehicle traveling from the opposite left direction will stop. It is expected that the pedestrian's attention will be focused on the fact that 'the bus stopped for me,' and safety checks in the left direction will become neglected.
Alternatively, there is also the possibility that a motorcycle might rush through from the same right direction as the bus, passing the right side of the bus. I have heard stories like these as actual accident cases.

In summary, it means this.
The bus driver's idea is, 'Since a pedestrian is waiting, I will stop and let them go,' butactually, even deeper consideration is necessary. In other words, although the bus itself stopped to ensure the pedestrian's safety, the driver failed to discern that dangers from other elements (such as oncoming vehicles or following motorcycles) might befall the pedestrian.
By creating the sensation or feeling that "the bus stopped for me!", you strip away the attention that pedestrians naturally possess, or by allowing them to cross even when safety has not been fully confirmed in every detail,
you may inadvertently expose pedestrians to new dangers that were not there originally.
That is what this means ⚠
While there may be various opinions and counterarguments, I am raising points that tend to become blind spots as "one way of grasping the pursuit of essence."
Are there any other points you notice?
