👜 "Places I want to visit again" ⑤
Togakushi Shrine Okusha (Nagano City)
Togakushi is said to be where the Heavenly Rock Cave landed after being thrown away when Amaterasu Omikami emerged. There are five Togakushi shrines, but the one I wanted to visit most was the Okusha. The approach to the Okusha is lined with thick, massive cedar trees that are 400 years old. Receiving the energy of the trees feels like a purification of the soul, and it builds excitement for the journey ahead to the inner shrine.
The Zuishinmon Gate along the way is covered in moss and ferns, and you cannot help but be captivated by its natural beauty. It is about a 2km walk from the parking lot to the Okusha. The final stretch feels like a bit of a mountain trek, which makes the sense of accomplishment upon reaching the Okusha all the more special.
The prayer fortune, where a priest recites a prayer and draws a fortune for you after you provide your age and gender, is unique to this place. This is another reason why I want to go back. Precisely because it requires ample time and proper walking attire, I want to prepare my mind and walk that green path once again.
