Developmental disabilities: just being alive is amazing.
Time flies like an arrow... A whole month has passed in the blink of an eye since my last post on note. I apologize to those who read my posts regularly if any of you were secretly worried about me.
Actually, behind the scenes, there had been talk of a large-scale business restructuring at my workplace since around the summer. As hundreds of people left in droves this autumn, I was kept busy with the paperwork in HR, and I ended up completely losing my mental and physical balance.
I had been under the care of the same medical institution ever since I was diagnosed with a developmental disability about 10 years ago, but two months ago, I changed clinics for the first time. I am surprised myself that I ended up changing my primary doctor.
I had my new doctor write a medical certificate requesting adjustments to my workload, which I then submitted to my workplace. I also started taking medication again for the first time in a while. Thanks to that, my health is gradually recovering.
(Well, I'm still exhausted from the ongoing overtime, though...)
I have been spending my days in a storm, and strong winds are still blowing through my heart, but if I could convey just one thing tonight, it would be this:
"Just being alive is amazing."
This praise, which wells up from the depths of my soul, says it all.
I imagine that among those reading this, there are some who have damaged their mental and physical health due to overwork, or who have been driven to take a leave of absence or resign. But even in such drowning situations, you are truly admirable just for taking a breath.
When you are depressed, it is easy to forget even that you are alive. But no matter how heavy your mind and body may feel, I feel an irreplaceable value in you for bravely remembering to keep breathing.
This is important, so I will say it again.
"Just being alive is amazing."
