Things to know before you break. How to protect your mind so stress doesn't reach your 'inner self'
Every day is a constant stream of pressure, and I've reached my limit...
Are you seeing signs like that in your mind or body?
An unreasonable boss, endless work. Before you know it, you start to feel that this environment is what's making you suffer.
When I was a bank employee, I experienced similar situations many times.
However, I realized something at one point.
It wasn't just the external environment that was cornering me.
Stress comes in two stages
There are two versions of ourselves in our minds.
One is the 'outer self' that faces the outside world. The other is the 'inner self' that holds our emotions.
When a boss speaks harshly to you, the first one to take damage is the 'outer self'.
But when you take that event and...
'What if I fail?'
'My evaluation might go down.'
'I have to do this properly.'
repeat it over and over in your head,
it is often you yourself who is dealing the real damage.
In other words,
👉 The 'outer self' receives the stress from the outside
👉 And then pours it into the 'inner self' as pressure
It is in this 'second stage' that the mind is rapidly worn down.
A simple way to protect your mind
So, what should you do?
The answer is simple.
Let your 'outer self' act as a filter.
For example, suppose your boss gives you an unreasonable instruction like,
'Get this finished by tomorrow.'
What people often end up doing here is
thinking, "I absolutely have to do this," or "If I can't do it, it's all over,"
and letting those thoughts flow directly inside.
But what you should actually do is this:
👉 Your role: Do your best within your capabilities
👉 Your boss's reaction: How they evaluate you is their task (job)
"This is a matter of my boss's emotions and has nothing to do with my worth."
"I will do my best. How they receive it is up to them."
Think of these as separate things.
Just doing this changes the nature of the pressure.
"Evaluation" is not your job
This is where many people suffer.
"What will they think of me?"
"Will my evaluation go down?"
But if you think about it calmly,
👉 Others do the evaluating
👉 You can only control your own actions
right?
In other words,
Evaluation is not your task (job).
Just separating this will make your mind feel much lighter.
Finally
Working hard is a wonderful thing.
But there is no need to work so hard that you break your mind.
What is important is
for your "outer self" to make firm judgments
and protect your "inner self."
'I've done enough'
'The rest is the other person's task (work)'
Please try saying these things to yourself.
Just by doing that, the stress you feel in the same environment will change significantly.
