Meshy AI | Generating 3D models from images and testing import into Blender | DAZ Studio 2025

Since I have uploaded a T-pose DAZ model to Sketchfab, I will introduce how I used the 3D generative AI Meshy AI to convert it to 3D from a screenshot taken after opening it, exported it in Blender format, and imported that file into Blender.

Information as of October 2, 2025: Please refer to the following article for animating 3D models generated with Nano Banana in Meshy (built-in & Mixamo).

Please refer to the following videos and articles for an overview of Meshy AI.

DAZ scenes cannot be distributed or used commercially as 3D data without purchasing a license, but if you render them into 2D still images or videos, the copyright belongs to me, so publishing or using them commercially (under the standard license) becomes possible.

Proceeding below.

Meshy AI Home Page

Click "Sign up - It's free" in the top right.

Sign up > Continue with Google

In my case, I clicked "Continue with Google" and logged in with my Google account.

A promotion screen appeared, and since you can get rewards by inviting friends, I invited my younger brother via email for now. When he signed up, both he and I immediately received 20 dollars worth of credits to use the Pro version for free for one month. It seems you can increase it up to three months' worth, but... 💦

Screenshot of Sketchfab model

For now, I displayed in full screen the DAZ model I uploaded to Sketchfab below, clicked the settings icon in the bottom right, changed it to "HQ" (high quality), and took a screenshot from the front.

★ The eyes are white, so please draw in the pupils using an image editing tool if necessary.

Try generating a model from an image

Click "Generate model from image"

"Generate model from image" click.

The 3D model generated from the screenshot image is already displayed.

★ You can watch how to generate a 3D model from an image starting around 4 minutes and 40 seconds in the video below. In the first half of the video, the method of "

generating a 3D model from text" is introduced. In this case, you do not need to prepare an image, and you can generate any 3D model (including things other than people) from a simple Japanese prompt.

Download Blender file

Download from the 3D model screen

"Download" click.

Download in blender file format

"Resize" turn on, set height to "150 cm", change "Format" to "blend", and click "Download".

Download

"Save" click.

By the way, the data for this model is displayed in the upper left of the scene.

Model data

Topology: Triangles (Triangles)
Face count: 196,386 (963,300)
Vertex count: 98,142 (560,200)

★ The values in parentheses () are the original Sketchfab model data.

★ The above file may be deleted as my understanding progresses, as the rights are not clear at this time (e.g., if I receive a claim)... 💦

Import into Blender

I tried importing the .blend file directly into Blender 3.6 LTS (Windows version) installed in the Linux (Zorin OS) Lutris WINE environment introduced in the following article.

★ Since the scene did not include lights or a camera, I added a sunlight and a camera, and this is a rendering preview from the camera view.

The rendering result using Cycles (GPU) is as follows.

Rendering time is approximately 10 seconds

The time taken for rendering was 9.69 seconds.

The saved image is as follows. (1000x1000pix PNG)

★ This time, I forgot to set the background to transparent in the Blender settings, so I used a background removal tool to make the background transparent. By doing this, you can enjoy creating 2D still image works by compositing it with any background.

However, since it is not usable at this level of image quality, I would like to verify higher image quality in the future.

Summary

I am introducing the process of using the 3D generative AI "Meshy AI" to convert to 3D from an image taken by opening a DAZ scene of a T-pose model uploaded to Sketchfab, outputting it in Blender format, and then importing and rendering that file in Blender.

Currently, it is at a draft quality level, but I would like to verify it while using trial and error regarding high-quality settings and how to master it.

If this can be put to practical use, I would like to make things available for private download or screenshot in the paid area of note.com paid articles, such as .blend files, shots with different camera angles of T-pose models (no background) rendered in high quality using DAZ Studio or Blender, and Sketchfab uploaded 360° VR works of T-pose models.
