Dare-Mobi Project Extra Edition
If "pets are family," why can't we go to hot springs together?
In Japan, it is often said,
"Pets are family."
In TV commercials, government pamphlets, and on social media,
dogs and cats are spoken of as "members of the family."
With the declining birthrate and aging population, and the increase in single-person households,
it is no longer rare for pets to serve as emotional support.
And yet, here we are.
Even though they are family,
we cannot enter hot springs together.
At accommodations, they are in separate rooms.
Meals are separate.
Travel is separate.
Should we really just dismiss this sense of discomfort
by saying "it's the rules" or "it's a hygiene issue"?
In the Dare-Mobi Project,
we want to take this "little question"
and think about it head-on, perhaps a bit humorously,
but also quite seriously.
The convenient use of the word "family"
First, as a premise, let me be clear to avoid any misunderstanding.
The Dare-Mobi Project
is not trying to say, "Treat pets the same as humans."
Quite the opposite.
The issue we want to raise is:
Are we using the word "family" too conveniently?
point.
・"Family" when you want comfort
・"Family" when you are lonely
・"Family" when you want to encourage consumer behavior
But,
when it comes to responsibility, capital investment, or creating systems,
we suddenly distance ourselves, saying "they're animals," "there's no precedent," or "it's too difficult."
This may be evidence that
Japanese society is unable to handle a "new image of family" rather than just a pet issue.
Another reality facing hot spring resorts
Now, let's shift the conversation to hot spring resorts.
Hot spring resorts are currently facing common challenges nationwide.
Aging population
Shortage of successors
Low weekday utilization rates
Anxiety over dependence on inbound tourism
The singular value proposition of "having nothing but hot springs"
Everywhere has similar scenery,
similar sales pitches,
and similar customer attraction strategies.
On the other hand, there is a demographic that is definitely growing.
**"People who want to travel with their pets."**
They are by no means a minority.
In fact, they are:
・Long-term stayers
・High repeat rate
・Willing to use facilities on weekdays
They are, in other words,
an ideal customer profile for hot spring resorts.
Yet,
the infrastructure to accommodate them is overwhelmingly lacking.
"Well then, why not just build a hot spring exclusively for pets?"
This is where the Dare-Mobi way of thinking comes in.
"If they're family, why can't they enter the hot spring?"
—This remark, which sounds half-joking.
But,
if you think about it seriously,
isn't it actually quite rational?
That is where the concept of
a pet-exclusive hot spring unit using a 20-foot containeremerged.
The reason for a 20-foot container split into two
Why a container?
The answer is simple.
It can be relocated
Initial investment can be kept low
It is less likely to disrupt the landscape
Easy to conduct demonstration experiments
Easy to adapt to the conditions of each hot spring area
And,
divide a 20-foot container into two parts.
Small dog area
Medium/large dog area
(or dog/cat, self-service/staff-assisted, etc.)
This concept of "dividing" is not discrimination.
It is a rational consideration to ensure safety and comfort.
Humans also have
separate facilities for men and women, family baths, and private baths.
We just need to provide
the same for pets.
Hygiene? It's just a matter of thinking it through properly.
There are objections that will inevitably arise.
"Isn't it unsanitary?"
"Won't the quality of the hot spring water drop?"
To be honest,
this is a matter of technology, not a matter of philosophy.
Circulation and filtration systems
Dedicated showers
Cleaning protocols after use
Usage restrictions (size, number of animals, time)
These are
already established in hot spring facilities for humans.
In other words,
it is not a reason not to do it, but a matter of motivation. is what it is.
Pet hot springs are not "spoiling" them.
Another common misunderstanding.
"Aren't you spoiling your pets too much?"
That's not it either.
The pet hot spring envisioned by the Dare-Mobi Project is not a
luxury item.
**"A place to properly design the time spent together."**
・Caring for bodies tired from travel
・Managing skin and coat health
・Rehabilitative use for elderly pets
・Peace of mind for owners
This is also a
very practical value proposition
where medicine, welfare, and tourism intersect.
Ideological alignment with "Dare-Mobi"
Here, let's return to the essence of the Dare-Mobi Project.
What Dare-Mobi aims for is not
a "society where only some people have to endure."
Not just the elderly enduring
Not just people with disabilities enduring
Not just tourist destinations being exhausted
And this time,
a society where only those living with pets do not have to endure is also included.
A society where someone else is excluded
to protect someone's "normality"
has already reached its limit.
Because it's a container, we can be seriously playful
The interesting thing about this pet hot spring concept
is that "we don't build a huge facility right away."
First,
hot spring areas that will cooperate
understanding business operators
pet owners who want to try it
You can start from this "small circle".
If it works, expand it.
If it doesn't fit, fix it.
That is what a container allows you to do.
If you're family, why shouldn't you be able to take a hot spring bath together?
Finally, let's return to these words once more.
"If you're family, why shouldn't you be able to take a hot spring bath together?"
This is neither
a provocation nor a joke.
What Japan will face from now on
Diversification of family forms
Redefinition of tourism
Reconstruction of regional value
A single small container
is questioning all of that.
The Dare-Mobi Project
is turning this question
into a shape that is serious, funny,
and realistic.
If there is anyone who thinks,
"That's actually kind of interesting,"
at that point, you are already a partner.
