My Past with Severe Periods: I Am Seeing a Gynecologist
I had my first period about three weeks after my 11th birthday.
I had stomach pain even back then.
When I was in high school, my menstrual cramps, headaches, fatigue, and lower back pain were severe, so I would take medication, go to the infirmary while at school to borrow a hot water bottle, or wear adhesive heat packs on my stomach and lower back to get through the day. I have been seeing a gynecologist since I was in high school and was prescribed herbal medicine.
Since becoming an adult, I have been prescribed an ultra-low-dose pill called Yaz Flex, which I have been taking continuously.
Since I started taking Yaz Flex, the number of my periods has decreased. Apparently, that is natural.
Also, the premenstrual symptoms and the physical discomfort during my periods have become much easier to manage.
I used to suffer from physical discomfort due to premenstrual symptoms starting about two weeks before my period.
It was very painful and exhausting.
When I go to the gynecologist, I have regular ultrasound exams and blood tests. They check to see if my ovaries are swollen and if there is any risk of thrombosis.
If you are suffering from painful menstrual cramps, please consider consulting a gynecologist.
