[Learning by Listening] Swap Your Boring Glasses for Interesting Ones!
Today, I would like to share some lessons I learned from Emi-san on the Voicy radio program, "OURHOME: Living and Working 'Just Right'."
She was sharing a listener's letter, and the person's situation was as follows:
A mother in a large family of seven working in agriculture, working six days a week without makeup.
She sometimes longs for the glamorous city life and feels that her own daily life is boring.
However, she mentioned that she realized it wasn't that her world was boring, but that she had been wearing "boring glasses." When she put on "interesting glasses," the world looked different. That was the story she shared.
Hearing this, the first thing that came to my mind was my own team.
My team works in an environment where the situation changes dizzyingly every day, to the point where policies might change the day after we start an initiative.
However, everyone just laughs it off. When an emergency response comes in, they say things like, "Ah, here we go!! This is thrilling, isn't it? Haha!"
When tasks pile up, they say things like, "I've already done it in my head; my brain is just moving too fast for my hands to keep up! Haha!"
They naturally reframe things positively and laugh them off together.
I tend to be negative, so I am always helped by that kind of team atmosphere.
I truly feel that whether you view a harsh situation through "painful glasses" or "interesting glasses" makes a dramatic difference in both your feelings and the situation itself.
The person who sent the letter said she had been wearing boring glasses, but I think there are quite a few people who find themselves in a negative state of mind.
When feelings like "this is painful," "this is a hassle," or "why me..." arise,
that is perfectly okay.
But,if you try swapping the facts in front of you for "interesting glasses,"
I think a lighter feeling will start to sprout. I believe so.
I will keep in mind that I can swap to "interesting glasses" at any time depending on myself, and I want to be ready to swap them quickly when the time comes!
