Learning from Vegeta: The Mindset and Intellect to Survive in an Era of Survival
Hello! I'm Ryohei, or Ryo-chan.
I am currently 32 years old. My goal is to create a life where I can blur the lines between work and private life, earn a living with like-minded friends, expand my hobbies and work, and live life to the fullest, while providing opportunities for many others.
As a first step toward achieving this, I am challenging myself to blog by honing my writing skills and using tools that allow me to leave a lasting record. I am focusing on themes like "Dragon Ball", "Self-Improvement", and "COVID-era Career Change", which is the subject of my current career support work.
I hope to gradually expand these themes in the future, but for a while, I will continue to write based on the topics above.
In my previous article, I wrote about why Vegeta couldn't surpass Goku from the perspective of mentality and emotions.
I would be happy if you could read it if you'd like.
Now, this is the second installment of the Vegeta feature. In the series, Vegeta is a character often depicted surviving crises through quick wit and pushing past his own limits.
This time, I have identified survival elements for living through today's rapidly changing world from Vegeta's way of life.
1. Vegeta's "Judgment" and "Execution"
First, please watch this video.
Vegeta escapes from Frieza's spaceship!
What's amazing about Vegeta is that he can make important decisions in an instant and execute them with confidence. If he fought Frieza, who is overwhelmingly stronger than him, head-on, he would be killed. It is impressive how he thinks through ways to achieve his goal while understanding his own position. In the video above, he confuses his opponent, buys time, accurately throws the Dragon Balls, and swims away so his ki isn't detected. I feel it is truly remarkable how he can
take bold action amidst the tension of knowing that one wrong step would lead to being discovered and killed by Frieza, who possesses absolute power and terror. In work and private life, there are times when we have to make our own choices and decisions. Since Vegeta constantly placed himself on a battlefield where he couldn't let his guard down, he likely developed an objective perspective even in harsh situations. I feel this also comes from his
experience of surviving life-or-death situations.
2. Vegeta's speed in mastering techniques
Next, please look at the following panel.

It is a scene where the prideful Vegeta uses the word "learn" from someone inferior to him (Goku at the time orKrillin) to power himself up. In the manga, he masters it in just over a month, with almost no time for training. His speed of absorption is incredible.
Although Vegeta has a sharp tongue, I feel his style is to notice the strengths and good points of others, steal them, and learn through practical application.
"Power" might not be the right expression, but if we apply it to ourselves, isn't it similar to learning from and incorporating the good points of even children or juniors through practice and real-world experience (such as club activities or work)?
Vegeta continues to evolve, becoming a Super Saiyan and powering up in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
Vegeta's catchphrase, "I am still far from my limit", is a point we should emulate, isn't it?
3. One's own pride, self-esteem, and beliefs
Vegeta has left behind many famous quotes.
In the Frieza arc, he is depicted getting stronger every time he fights, repeatedly dying and being revived.

And, the determination of Vegeta, who accepted the fact that Goku became a Super Saiyan triggered by Krillin's death and defeated Frieza, and began training in earnest for the first time in his life, also expresses his rebellious spirit, which is inspiring.

Also, the line Vegeta says after regaining his confidence by becoming a Super Saiyan, only to be soundly defeated by the powerful Androids, is a scene that shows his attitude of always aiming higher, which motivates me to give it my all as well.

I feel that we, too, are being forced to change as the spread of COVID-19 has triggered waves of major change in various situations. Along with that, I think there will be obstacles, walls, and setbacks. In times like these, how do we perceive the situation, and how do we talk to ourselves to get motivated? I feel that Vegeta is a genius at mental control, showing us the secret to accelerating change and overcoming our limits.
I, too, will maintain my pride, self-confidence, and belief in myself—in a good way—that "I am nowhere near my limit; I will become even more amazing" and I will imitate the various good qualities of others to live a life of constant growth and change toward self-actualization.
Next time, I will write about "the secret to forming bonds that transcend blood relations," focusing on Piccolo, the mentor of Goku's son, Gohan. Stay tuned.
