Weekly question #37 Did you get paid for doing chores when you were a child?
Thank you so much for coming to my note. I really appreciate your likes, follows, and every action you take for my note.
This is my article about the weekly question from the English Diary 2024. The theme in August is "Endless house chores".
Weekly question: Did you get paid for doing chores when you were a child?
I don't think I ever got paid for doing chores. I sometimes helped my mother cook or vacuum the rooms.
Especially when cooking, I was excited to bake sweets with her. I learned how to bake cookies. This may not be a chore. At least I didn't feel like it was a chore. It was one of the fun things to do with my mother. I remember how I was bad at cutting the cucumbers into slices. I don't think I'm good enough, even now. My husband sometimes tells me the slice isn't a slice. Then, I would tell him to try it himself. It becomes a quarrel, but we get along well afterwards.
Vacuuming the rooms was a chore, but I didn't feel bad about this either. After I finished vacuuming the rooms in the house, I felt refreshed. Don't you feel good after cleaning up? Or is it just me?
House chores do stress me out, but this weekly question reminded me how I used to enjoy them. It didn't matter to me whether I got paid or not.
Did you ever get paid for doing chores when you were a child?
I was trying to remember if I ever got pocket money for doing chores, and I don't think I did. I enjoyed cooking and vacuuming with my mother.
Rather than just cooking with my mother, baking sweets was a joy. I learned how to bake cookies, and cutting out shapes was fun too.
What I was bad at was slicing cucumbers thinly. Even now, I'm not that good at it. My husband sometimes tells me they are too thick (lol). I get stubborn and tell him to try it himself, which sometimes leads to a little argument. Well, even if we have an argument like that, we make up before we know it, so maybe it's not a big fight (lol).
Vacuuming the rooms was something I did because I felt it was a chore. But don't you feel refreshed after you finish? Is it just me who feels that way?
Doing house chores can certainly be stressful or feel like a hassle. This weekly question helped me remember how I enjoyed them when I was a child. I didn't get pocket money for doing chores, but for the child I was, that didn't really matter. There were times when I was able to enjoy doing things while learning through casual interactions with my mother.
Thank you for reading this far. I am happy to receive likes and comments, and they are very encouraging.
