Vol. 24 Is the Future of Love Dependent on the Weather!? Producing a Youth-Oriented Brand Movie

"Uni-Cre!" introduces creative topics and unique solutions from a creator's perspective.
We would like to introduce the brand movie for "tenki.jp," a weather forecast app jointly operated by the Japan Weather Association and ALiNK Internet, which we had the pleasure of assisting with.

Producing a Youth-Oriented Brand Movie

Only the weather knows the future of that love—.

Ao, an ordinary college student, is drawn to Miu, a slightly eccentric girl who cannot stop talking once the subject turns to weather.
While being swept along by her pace, Ao begins to realize the "joy of knowing the weather" as they spend time together. And before they know it, the distance between them begins to close...
A heart-fluttering youth short movie depicted by "tenki.jp."

Brightening your life and your future.

This brand movie was produced with the goal of deeply instilling the Japan Weather Association's brand message. By delivering the message through a memorable story, we aimed to create a weather forecast app that is trusted by users and chosen as one they "want to use again."

Furthermore, in addition to conveying the emotional value of the brand, we also effectively communicate the appeal of the service by subtly yet impressively depicting tenki.jp's three functional benefits (key selection criteria) throughout the story.

[3 Key Selection Criteria]
・The reliable peace of mind that "the forecast is accurate"
・The convenience of being able to "check immediately" on your smartphone
・Being able to quickly find "necessary information" such as rain cloud radar and 2-week weather forecasts

Commitment to Creativity

1. Casting Selection

From the planning stage, we clearly defined the character profiles of the two leads. Because the chemistry between the actors and the characters was crucial, we held auditions and selected the cast from a large number of applicants.

For the male lead, Ao, we chose Riku Onishi, who possessed both a lighthearted personality capable of getting along with anyone and a gentle, approachable youthfulness.

Miu is a difficult role—a "quirky girl" who loves talking about the weather too much. We were moved by Nazuna Mitsushima, who performed with such joy that her geeky weather talk sounded "genuinely geeky," and we asked them both to take on the roles.

2. Locations & Costumes to Evoke the Four Seasons

We filmed at various locations within the university, using the four seasons as our theme. To match the seasonal feel,we prepared 10 different costume patterns.
We used scenes of memories they shared to show that "as the seasons change, the distance between the two of them shrinks."

3. Arranging a Rain-Making Tanker

Rain-making tanker

As a brand movie for a weather forecast app, the depiction of rain was unavoidable. To pursue realism,"rain-making"we conducted a large-scale shoot using special effects technology.
To convey the scene where their love began even more attractively, several staff members pointed hoses toward the sky to create realistic rain.

We asked the people involved

We asked Director Nagaguchi, who was in charge of the commercial's direction, about the project.

We asked the representative from the Japan Weather Association about it.

Actually, as a follow-up story,
they also improved the rain cloud radar feature in the app to coincide with the release of this commercial.

It seems it was originally scheduled for release a bit later, but since the radar screen was going to be used in the brand movie,“We want to maximize the experiential value for users when they engage with the app after watching the commercial,”they said, and they coordinated with the development team to move the release date forward.

Hearing stories like this, you can really feel the sincere dedication of the entire team working together to enhance the value of the service, and it’s truly moving. Seeing their commitment to making not just the commercial, but the entire app experience the best it can be, I felt from the bottom of my heart that it was truly worth obsessing over every detail.

At Uni-Cre!, we will continue to introduce topics related to creativity and unique solutions from a creator's perspective.

Look forward to next month!
