Wearable Poetry and Announcements

It's been a while.
This is sudden, but I wrote a poem. It's my first time, but I wrote it with all my heart. Please, take a moment to read it if you'd like.

Holding your right hand
Holding it gently
At the end of our joined hands
The warmth of your left hand

Hey, hey
Dad
Hey, hey

You say
My left hand responds

Long ago
A hand that grasped a stone
A hand that became human
Grasping a pencil
Practicing kanji
The pinnacle of humanity

A shovel
A crayfish
The day we buried them

Bye-bye
Let's play again
An unfading cherry tree

Corn soup I hate
A grimace
No!
No!
No!
Messy hands
Hands with a will of their own

Between hand and voice
You drift
How does the world look to you?

Why can't I hear?

Because that is who you are

My fingers
You, grasping them
The day I decided to put those hands into words

Ever since then
Days of happiness

Tired and falling asleep
Mud-covered hands
A lineage like lightning

Let's write a letter
To the horizon at our fingertips

You are
Free

That is all.
I used to read poetry like any editor who graduated from a literature department, and I loved reading books written by poets even more. I especially love Gozo Yoshimasu, and what I wrote this time is heavily influenced by him.

The reason I suddenly wrote a poem is because Shinji Hayashi of the Shibuya wine bar 'bar bossa,' whom I used to edit for at the media outlet 'cakes,' mentioned he was holding a 'Creative Flea Market.'

I thought I'd like to submit something too, so I challenged myself to write poetry, but that alone didn't feel interesting enough. So, I did this.

I cut fabric into the shapes of the letters of the poem I wrote,

Appliquéd them onto raw fabric,

Stitched them, sewed them,

And this is what happened. In other words, this is,

A skirt. I made a wearable poem!!

It's a wrap skirt. The main body of the skirt is about 100cm long, and the length is about 81cm. The model is my wife, and even at 171cm tall, she can wear it normally.

Even if you open your legs to a certain extent, the slit doesn't show.

The waist can be tied with a string.

It looks cute when paired with navy, creating a tricolor look.

The price is 10,000 yen. Honestly, this might be expensive for a flea market, but considering the cost of materials and labor, this is the limit. Seriously. Deciding to turn a poem into a skirt was my undoing; it just wouldn't progress. The workload was so high that I could only make a very small amount. I'm panicking even as I write this.

So, let's meet tomorrow from 12:00 at the 'Creative Flea Market' held at bar bossa in Shibuya! There will be many other exhibitors, so please come and visit!

February 23rd (Mon, Holiday) 12:00 - 16:00
Location: bar bossa
41-23 Udagawa-cho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0042, Dai-ni Okubo Building
