[TALES] Writing, reading, being read, and three months

Prologue

Hello, I am something that quietly inhabits TALES.
It has been about three months since I started moving around on TALES.


Since the first post date of "Mudra's Cradle" seems to be July 20th,
I suppose I must have started working on it around this time three months ago.
I don't know for sure, though.

This is a piece with the intention of looking back a little now that I have reached the three-month mark of continuous activity.

Whether each of these actually constitutes a novel...
let's set that aside for now,
but it seems I am managing somehow.

Activities so far

Parts I complete myself

I started writing "Mudra" as my second work,
and it is still not finished.
If you ask if it is a grand masterpiece,
it is not even 30,000 characters at this point,
so it is quite slow-going.

Well, there is no denying that it is a slow pace,
but I have written a few other things besides that.

Three independent one-shots,
things stuffed haphazardly into a box,
and a series of short stories from the last two or three weeks?...
Regarding those,
if I trust the TALES count,
it is 34,522 charactersapparently.

Whether that number is high or low,
I haven't looked it up, so I don't know,
and I don't have any particular interest in it either.

Well, as a trace of my activity,
when it is visible in some numbers,
it makes me think, 'I, who have never done any broadcasting, am actually doing it',
which is quite a thought.

Parts I do not complete myself

How much I have written is a story only about my own activity,
but when you post on the web,
interactions with an unspecified number of people are born.

It is not a one-way ticket,
I write, it is read by someone,
and I also read someone else's.
I have been going around in that cycle.

Well, it is just my own policy,
and I don't think anyone else should be like this.

Since there are many people who write works with quite a lot of volume,
it tends to be a turtle's pace,
but (especially after receiving a reaction for the first time),
I visit their page and read something.
I'm sorry if I missed anyone.

Numbers as a trace

So, three months.
The results of the cycle of reading and being read are also,
well, digitized.

So, I thought I wouldexpose thema little.
It is not a particularly significant number,
but as one piece of evidence.

As a premise,

• No active promotion using SNS like X

• No so-called follow-back strategy

• Similar to the above, no 'carpet-bombing likes'

That is where I stand.
Partly because I don't even use X in the first place,
but I don't do any general 'growth techniques'.


Because it's a hassle...Ahem.Since 70-80% of the purpose is fulfilled the moment it is taken out of my head,
I don't really feel like doing more than that.
If I were conscious of rankings and such,
I suppose that wouldn't work, and I understand the logic, but...

Total Page Views

I'll leave the preamble at that.

Thanks to you all, whether this is a lot or a little,
in any case, each one has triple-digit page views.

However, there are two types of page views...
the number of page views shown on the work page and the sum of the page views for each chapter clearly do not match.

If I were to try to interpret this,
perhaps the difference represents people who entered the work page but
left without reading...?

If it were a bookstore, it would be like picking a book up from the shelf,
checking the synopsis or table of contents, and then putting it back on the shelf,
I suppose...

Well, there's no point in talking about things that aren't disclosed.
Since I said I would expose them,
I will also expose the contents.

Individual Page Views

It would be too long if I captured everything,
so I will summarize them below. They are in the order of their first release.

Whether it's page views or likes, multi-chapter structures are
advantageous, so I won't worry about that.

The weight of a 'like' varies from person to person, but
assuming a certain number of page views are obtained,
if I am receiving likes for at least one-third of the total individual page views,
well, perhaps I have managed to guarantee a certain level of quality.

If the difference between total page views and the sum of individual page views is as I suspect,
would it change if, for example, I wrote the introduction more properly?
(I haven't really written it properly, after all!)

Future Activities

General Policy

First, my goal is to complete 'Muedra'.
Thinking about it now,
there are parts where I think 'I could have done a bit better...',
but I will leave it as is for now.

I have mostly put out the elements I wanted to talk about,
so now it's just a world of how it lands where I envisioned it.
I think it will wrap up in a few more chapters,
but... after all, I don't have a plot.
It's also the kind of story that's hard to build a plot for, though.

Platform-related matters

Apparently, there are various posting sites in the world.
As someone who hasn't gone through those,
honestly, I'm at the level of only knowing the name 'Narou'.

The reason I started moving on TALES is just because
I was thinking of just posting on that thing called 'note' that I hear about here and there,
and then I heard there was something dedicated to it... so that's the extent of my reason.

As I mentioned briefly, my primary motivation is to get things out of my head,
and I am not considering juggling multiple platforms
beyond that.

So, I basically intend to stick with TALES alone,
but that is a matter of my own vitality,
and there is no particular necessity for it to be TALES.
How that turns out is anyone's guess.

Ideas for my next work?

Currently, since my short story ideas have settled down,
a long-form storyis what I am planning.
I am still in the process of refining it... or rather, preparing, laying the groundwork, or perhaps test-writing; I am at that stage.
In terms of genre,
historical fiction—if you could call it that—it feels quite different from what I have written before.

Once it takes some shape, I think I will start working on it.
At that time, I would appreciate your support.

Though, from what I have seen wandering around, one concern I have is whether it will fit the TALES readership...

Conclusion

I have written at length about my own affairs.
No matter how intrinsic my motivation may be,
if it had never caught anyone's eye and the page views had remained at zero,
I am sure I would have stopped long ago.
In that sense, I suppose I am indeed being supported.
