Bring It On! Spring Break, the Start of the Terrifying Private Daycare [Day 25]
"Nooooo!! I don't wanna!! I don't wanna!!"
Crying echoes through the room.
I scoop up the thrashing three-year-old and drag him off to the bathroom.
"Excuse me, sir! Your diaper is wet!! We're going to the toilet!!"
"Nooooo!!"
I've been repeating this for nearly ten minutes now.
It's been a while since I've done potty training.
It's been about five years since my second son, I think.
My own kids never really fussed like this, so I find it kind of refreshing as I call out to him.
"Yes, yes. You don't want to, I get it, I get it."
That's usually how I respond.
When I say "I get it," I mean "I understand that you don't want to," not"so I'll stop."
Therefore, I don't stop what I'm doing.
Seeing me nod to myself, my nephew (3 years old) finally realizes"this person isn't going to stop just because I'm doing this"and stops crying.
"Bling-Bang-Bang, I wanna do it!!"
"Bling-Bang-Bang?"
Let me explain.
What he calls "Bling-Bang-Bang" is the theme song"Bling-Bang-Bang-Born"from the anime "Mashle," which is currently a huge hit among elementary school students.
It's now popular even among kindergarten and daycare kids, and it's become an unspoken rule that when the song plays, you dance and sing with all your might, even if you don't know what the words mean.
He kept begging me to 'show me,' so when I finally played the YouTube video, he was desperately trying to keep up with that speed while dancing, which was incredibly cute.
It's a fast song, isn't it?
……I see.
So he likes Mashle.
Having realized this, I proposed a deal to him.
'I'll draw Mash on your diaper, so let's race to see who's faster—you sitting on the potty or me drawing.'
'Yeah!!'
I thought he would throw a tantrum, but he nodded obediently.
What was all that crying about earlier?
He sat on the potty with speed that made me rub my eyes in disbelief (I think it took 0.1 seconds), then quickly came over to demand Mashle.
……So he can sit on it after all.
'Alright, I'm drawing it now~~'
As I said that, I drew Mash-kun holding a cream puff.
It seems he liked it.
He obediently put on the Mashle diaper and marched proudly back to the living room.

I couldn't take a picture of the Mashle diaper.
Instead, I'll leave a picture of the Jumpluff my eldest son drew.
I think many moms struggle with potty training because it takes time and kids can be difficult. I was the same way.
But the reason I didn't have much trouble with potty training for my child is because of'flexibility' and 'intent', I think.
It's not something that can be done overnight, and it depends on their physical condition, so keep the line for 'that's enough for today' loose. (Don't force it)
Once you decide to take off the diapers, switch to cloth underwear. (The strength of the adult's will is important)
I feel that if you can do these two things, it often goes surprisingly smoothly.
I feel like it doesn't go well if you switch between diapers and underwear based on the adult's mood.
At least in my case.
I think it's fine to have fun and draw pictures on the diapers. Stickers are also fine, of course.
That's how loosely I'm raising my kids.

I will attempt potty training for my third child.
