Everything Happened at Midnight. [Day 20]
Late at night.
In the quiet, sleeping room, I sense something standing up.
With light, pitter-patter footsteps, it opens the living room door and heads toward the bathroom.
There, my husband, who had just returned from his night shift, was washing himself.
“...?! Whoa, you scared me!!”
Standing behind him was our second son (7).

Having someone suddenly appear behind you at 3:00 AM is
super scary!!
Our second son, Pekoru-kun, apparently said this with a dazed look on his face.
“Daddy, is that you...?
Peko fell out of bed...”
“O-oh... is that so...?”
He nodded at my husband, who answered while still startled, and then went back to bed with a pitter-patter... sound.
Meanwhile.
I was in bed, fidgeting and thinking, “Pekoru is gone...”.
Before long, I heard my husband shout from the bathroom.
"That child... he went to the bathroom today, didn't he..."
These escapes happen every night.
It's rarer for them not to happen.
The other day, I woke up sensing someone there, and Pekoru was sitting seiza-style right next to me.
Why seiza...??
Peering into my terrified face, he said one thing.
"Huh... who could this be...?"
I'm your mother, that's who!!!

I gave him a full-force retort, let me tell you...
What kind of sleep-talking is that? It's scary when a stranger is sleeping next to you, you know!!
Ignoring me as I sat there with my mouth agape at his remark, my second son said, "Heave-ho," and crawled in next to me. He immediately started breathing softly in his sleep.

I do think he's cute.
But still...
I'm off my guard in the middle of the night, you know...
Every night at our house, a battle like this“Escape Artist Pekoru”takes place.
When we woke up this morning, my husband muttered with an exhausted look on his face.
“A child... there was a child behind me...”

Will the day ever come when she sleeps without trying to escape...?
We are a couple who truly look forward to that day.

I'm super sleepy during the day.
