Oshi Coloring | Hobbies to Enjoy with Colored Pencils
Adult coloring books are quite popular, aren't they?
However, coloring pictures that are already drawn feels a bit unsatisfying.
On the other hand, I don't have enough time to draw the base sketches myself.
And I want to enjoy drawing pictures.
So, I started drawing by tracing the main lines from photos.
Because of that, it feels more like coloring than drawing.
It should be even more fun if it's a picture of a celebrity you like.
I started this coloring project with the thought, 'Let's casually draw coloring pages of my favorite celebrity!'
【Art Supplies】
・MUJI Colored Pencils, 36-color set (It seems the half-size version is no longer sold)
・MUJI Sketchbook, F1 size
・Pencil (H or HB), as you prefer.
・Opaque white paint (I used correction ink for comics this time. A correction pen is also fine)
・Pencil sharpener
・Eraser: Pentel Ain Clic (The tip is triangular, so I cut it with a cutter to make a sharp corner. A regular eraser is sufficient)
・Light box (I think many people don't have one, so I recommend taping it to a bright window to trace it, or using tracing paper)
【Process】
(1) Enlarge and copy your favorite photo of your favorite celebrity to match the size of the drawing paper.
(I chose this photo because I liked Yuri-yuri, played by Ryusei Yokohama, in the drama 'A Story to Read When You First Fall in Love.' I thought it would be fun to draw because his hair color is beautiful.)
(2) Place the drawing paper over the photo and carefully trace the lines with a pencil. It is easier to draw if you cut the drawing paper out.
(I didn't take photos of this part.)
(3) Prepare other drawing paper and color while checking the color development and layering of the colored pencils. Since the screen gets dirty, I start coloring from the left side, opposite to my dominant right hand. I wear cloth gloves while drawing because the drawing paper absorbs oil from my hands.
(Considering the balance, I think it's better to draw the eyes last.)

Actually, I had stopped for two years without drawing the eyes, and I drew the rest this time to write this note article.
Once I draw the face, I feel satisfied, and the rest tends to get delayed (laughs).
Finally, it is useful to create a color chart for your colored pencils. This one is in numerical order, but it is easier to understand if you group them by similar colors.
Muji colored pencils only have numbers written on them, which makes them hard to remember, but they have great color payoff and a soft feel when drawing.
While some colored pencils and sketchbooks can be expensive, I think you can enjoy yourself just as much with more affordable options.
Starting with photos of simple fruits or vegetables might be good, but when it's your 'oshi' (favorite), you definitely feel more motivated! (lol)
