A Small Picture Book of 'Sweet Potato Cat' (My First Zine?)
I drew a Sweet Potato Cat for the #SweetPotatoCat project started by children's book author Tomoko Niwano.
I was so happy when people said it looked like a picture book that I decided to turn it into a small one.
It is a simple 8-page book (including front and back covers) made from a single sheet of A4 paper.
Each side is a 7.5 cm square.
First, I drew the pages using ibisPaintX (the free version).
My iPad Air and Pencil, which I bought at New Year's, finally got some use.
Seven pages to go.
I worked on it a little bit every day and managed to finish all the pages.

After trying to make it, I realized that drawing is harder than I thought.
But once I started drawing, I got completely absorbed in it (lol).
There was even a page I had to redraw entirely because the angry cat was too scary (though it still looks scary~).
I intended to make it quickly, but before I knew it, I had poured my soul into it, and now I'm exhausted.
The little books I used to make by hand when I was a child.
I felt that it has become an amazing era where we can give shape to what we imagine in our heads much faster than before.
I used convenience store printing, which costs 60 yen per A4 color sheet (cheap, beautiful, and I'm grateful for it).
The layout was also done quickly and easily in Canva.
I didn't really flesh out the story, so I'd like to think about it more carefully next time.
Also, since it seems like it would be fun even with detailed drawings, I thought I'd like to try making a mini picture book with a different art style.
Wait, unexpectedly, didn't I just make my first ZINE?
Yay! (lol)
That said, I won't be selling it, but making books is still fun, isn't it?
Thank you for reading.
