Ordinary people imitate forms and self-destruct. The royal road of business where wise people 'steal structures' behind the scenes
There is a saying that 'ideas have no value; execution is everything.' It captures the reality of business quite beautifully.
The approach of 'imitating the first mover before having an idea' might seem cold-blooded at first glance. However, it is an extremely rational strategy that dramatically increases the survival rate of a business.
There are several decisive reasons for this.
1. The 'existence of the market' has already been proven
The greatest enemy of a new idea is not the competition. It is that 'no one wants it.'
The fact that a first mover is already generating sales means that the best possible market research has been completed, confirming that 'there are indeed customers willing to pay money.'
You can cut all the costs of cultivating demand from scratch. This is the greatest strength of a latecomer.
2. There is a golden opportunity in the 'imperfections' of the first mover
No matter how excellent a first mover's service may be, it is never 100% perfect.
The features are good, but it's hard to use
Support is sparse and unfriendly
The price is too high
There are too many features to master
Latecomers only need to research the users' frustrations (pain points) regarding the first mover, such as 'this part is a shame.'
By releasing a 'slightly better imitation (imitation + improvement)' that makes minor improvements there, you can cleanly take market share from the first mover.
3. The true nature of innovation is 'combination'
Great businesses that have left their mark on history are not actually ideas from scratch. Everything starts with intense imitation.

4. Ordinary people imitate, wise people steal
There is a famous quote by the poet T.S. Eliot that Steve Jobs also liked to cite.
“Good poets cheat; great poets steal.”
(Ordinary people imitate, wise people steal)
This does not simply mean to copy the form exactly.
Instead of 'copying the superficial form,' you should 'steal the essence and structure' of why it is successful.
Then, combine your own strengths or a new target with that. This is the correct technique of 'imitation' in business.
Rather than waiting for a 'miraculous idea that no one has thought of' and remaining stagnant, observe a market that is already moving, imitate it with respect, and surpass it.
That is the most reliable and dynamic royal road of business.

5. Preparation to advance to the world beyond this point
So, how can you actually find successful predecessors and strip bare the 'attraction, education, and sales' structure behind them?
Break down the 'wall of excuses' you are unconsciously building and cultivate the perspective to read the structures of your predecessors.
Only those who seriously want to take control of their own lives should proceed beyond this point.
From here, we will change our perspective once more.
Having read this far, you might have thought, 'So, what specifically should I do?' But before that, there is one thing I want you to consider.
6. Is 'looking for a side job' really necessary?
When people think, 'I want to start a side job,' many search like this.
'What are recommended side jobs?'
'What is profitable right now?'
'What can a beginner do?'
Then, they watch YouTube, follow social media, and look for success stories. However, the more information they gather, the more their options increase, and before they know it, hours have passed and nothing has started.
Why is that?
It is not because there is a lack of information. It is because there is 'too much' information.
And the most fundamental problem lies in continuously seeking the answer to "What should I do to make money?" from someone else.
As long as you have the mindset of "finding a job (task) that suits me," you will never be able to escape from being a "worker on the side of being given work."

7. Look at "structures," not "work"
People who think like business owners are different.
Instead of "What should I do?", think "Who is in trouble?"
Instead of "What can I do?", think "What are people paying money for?"
Instead of "Which side hustle is profitable?", think "What kind of structure generates profit?"
For example, the job of "video editing."
Workers see it as "a job where I edit videos and get paid a certain amount per video".
However, people who look at structures see "Why outsource? Where do the projects come from, and how can it be automated?".
Even when looking at the same "video editing," what they are looking at is fundamentally different.
Workers look at "work (manual labor)."
People who look at structures look at "the flow of money (the system)."
This difference in thinking habits is exactly what creates all inequality.
8. "4-Step Research" to steal the structures of predecessors
There is no need to invent new ideas from scratch.
What you should do is observe the "underlying skeleton (structure)" of predecessors who are already selling in the market.
I divide the basics for doing that into four steps.
STEP 1: Work backward from your goal If you want 100,000 yen a month, is it 10 sales of 10,000 yen profit, or 5 sales of 20,000 yen? First, break down the numbers and calculate the required amount of customer acquisition.
STEP 2: Look at the market (problems) Health, work, relationships, money... Observe where the "deep problems that people would pay money to solve" are. Look at whether there is demand in the market, not what you want to do.
STEP 3: Find a 'pond with fish' No matter how good a product you make, it won't sell in a place where there are no people. Find 'hubs where people who already want to buy are gathered,' such as search engines, marketplaces, or content platforms.
STEP 4: Dissect the pioneers Break down 'Why is this person selling?' (To whom? What? Why? At what price? From where? How? And what happens after?)
When you look at it this way, what was just a 'product' begins to stand out as a 'business structure'.
Once you have dissected the structure, build it small, fail small, and cycle through improvements.
'The market paid one yen for my idea' People's thinking only changes through experiences like this.

9. Even if they know the know-how, why can't 99% of people take action?
Reading this far, you might have thought, 'I see, I just need to look at the structure.'
However, I will be blunt.
Just knowing this will not change your thinking.
Because,'knowing' and 'being able to use' are completely different things.
Even if you know how to see the structure, the moment you face the screen alone, you immediately start thinking, 'What can I do?'
If it doesn't sell, you think, 'I have to try harder,' and if you fail, you give up, thinking, 'This isn't for me.'
And then, you start looking for new know-how again.
As long as your brain is ingrained with the 'habit of being told the right answer and completing assigned tasks' from years in school and society, no matter how much knowledge you increase,if your thinking habits (OS) don't change, you will eventually end up back in the same place.
The real problem is not a lack of side hustle know-how.
It is the 'worker's thought pattern' that remains in your brain.
10. Before changing your side hustle, change the 'brain that views side hustles'
Even if you memorize hundreds of superficial side hustle tips, it is meaningless if you return to your original thinking.
What is needed is not the addition of know-how, but completely rebuilding the 'initial question (brain's OS)' when you look at things.
'How do I make this?' -> 'Who wants this?'
'How do I sell this?' -> 'Why does it sell?'
"I have to work harder" ➔ "Where is the problem in the structure?"
"I failed" ➔ "What did the market teach me?"
"I can't do it" ➔ "What parts can I break down so that I can do it too?"
From "someone looking for work" to "someone who builds systems on their own"
We will start reconstructing your thinking from here. It is not about changing your side hustle.
It is about changing the "entry point of thinking" you use to view your side hustle.
Beyond that lies a world where you "think for yourself, try for yourself, collect results for yourself, and connect them to the next system."
If you have felt until now that "I've looked into many things, but I can't seem to move forward."
Perhaps what you need is not new know-how, but
changing yourself (your brain) that views the know-how
.
AI side hustles, social media, reselling, content sales....
Keep gathering information.
Even though you are learning various things, for some reason you cannot build a business yourself.
Perhaps what is missing is not "know-how," but the very thinking that views business.
