The Purpose of Life is 'To Experience' — Where Executives Freed from Results Eventually Arrive
The purpose of life is 'to experience'.
Where executives freed from results eventually arrive
'How much profit can I generate with this business?'
'In the next project,
how much of a result can I produce?'
How many times have you asked yourself
questions like these?
Management is a world where you cannot ignore the numbers.
A stance of focusing on results and pursuing outcomes is
indispensable for an executive carrying the future of an organization.
However, if you have walked that path for a long time,
have you ever had
this feeling?
'I have kept producing results, but for some reason, I feel unfulfilled.'
'I want to live more freely and more like myself.'
'I want to savor the "now" rather than the results.'
That is a new door in life that only opens to those who have run through the stage of result-oriented thinking.
A way of life where the experience itself is the goal
What is needed in the next stage is a 'shift' in thinking.
From 'what to achieve' to 'what to experience'.
I call this 'experience-oriented thinking'.
In experience-oriented thinking, both success and failure,
joy and suffering,
every experience is treated as 'value'.
The purpose is the experience itself.
That is why it is okay to fail,
and it is okay how others see you.
Even if you don't accomplish anything,
if you are savoring 'this very moment',
that is enough.
Experience is the reward.
Results are a byproduct.
And that way of life is surprisingly free and creative.
Experience-oriented thinking evolves executives
In the days when you were obsessed with producing results,
wasn't your heart somewhat tense?
'I must not be wrong.'
'I cannot fail.'
'I must always meet expectations.'
Such pressure,
without you knowing it, narrows your heart
and narrows your options.
But when you stand on experience-oriented thinking,
courage mysteriously wells up.
Because you can truly believe that
'there is meaning even if I don't succeed.'
It is okay to take on new challenges.
It is okay to jump into unknown fields.
Even if the result is not favorable,
there is value in the fact that you 'experienced it'.
When you switch to this way of thinking,
your intuition as an executive becomes sharper.
Your heart becomes softer, and human relationships,
as well as business ideas, all begin to move flexibly.
You no longer need to be bound by the evaluations of others
Another freedom brought by experience-oriented thinking is
liberation from 'evaluation'.
Until now, we have lived
using the evaluations of others as our indicators.
'Being praised = correct answer'
'Being criticized = mistake'
But if the experience is the goal,
it does not matter what kind of evaluation you receive.
Rather, even the experience of being criticized
becomes depth in your life.
That is why you should be more honest with your own heart.
Instead of a life that meets someone else's expectations,
try to have the courage to choose a life
that you truly want to 'savor'.
The protagonist of your life is always 'you'
As an executive,
or as a single human being,
what kind of scenery do you want to see?
The one who decides that
is none other than 'you yourself'.
Of course,
I am not denying the importance of producing results.
But when you realize that it is not the 'only value', the quality of your life changes dramatically.
To experience.
That is the essence of life,
the true nature of richness, and the ultimate goal.
Finally, I would like to ask you this.
What do you want to 'experience' now?
With whom, what kind of emotions,
and what kind of time do you want to savor?
That answer,
should become the compass for your life and business from now on.
