Overwhelmed by Original Art at the Yayoi Museum's 'Atsushi Kamijo 40th Anniversary Exhibition: LIVE'
I went to the "Atsushi Kamijo 40th Anniversary Exhibition: LIVE" currently being held at the Yayoi Museum.
[Exhibition Overview]
Atsushi Kamijo (born 1963) celebrates the 40th anniversary of his 1983 debut. His work, including the monumental music manga "To-y" and the legendary masterpiece "SEX," which pushed the boundaries of drawing, has influenced many artists beyond the realm of manga.
Characterized by the phrase "Men are erotic, women are cool," his work features attractive characters of both genders, sharp drawing and composition, and a unique atmosphere and flow of time. We are exhibiting a number of his innovative and stylish works. From early pieces shown as original art for the first time to recent illustrations and his latest work, please experience the "LIVE"—the meaning of "living"—that Atsushi Kamijo plays with his pen.
Atsushi Kamijo has been a manga artist I've loved since I was in junior high school. There is a "sexiness" in every single line, and even as his style has changed slightly over time, his captivating artistic touch continues to draw me in.
Furthermore, his use of "blank space"—the parts not drawn—is sophisticated, skillfully depicting emotions that cannot be fully expressed in words.
At this exhibition, many of Kamijo's original drawings were on display, and it felt like nourishment for my soul.
Photography was allowed, so I'll share a few photos with you.
