Congrats! Side School Contest Results Announced!
From my perspective, it's still a little while before Roll & Roll arrives in my hands, and I can't wait. I'm so envious of those who have already received it that I'm practically dying of impatience. Also, I'm trembling in case I accidentally made a posting error.
While looking forward to seeing the results, in this Tsukimi News, I'm going to post about 'what I submitted' along with some commentary.
What is the Side School Contest?
First, let's quickly review how the Side School Contest was held.
・Please create a side school according to the 'School Creation' optional rules on p.27 of the 'Magicalogica Supplement: Collection Diary'.
・When creating a school, you can set one type of school magic in the library list, but for that school magic, you can set a magic spell that the applicant has thought up themselves.This magic is treated as a school magic exclusive to that school.
・In this contest, I intend to use 'how much people other than the creator would want to use that school' as the judging criteria.'Settings that make you want to use the school,' 'expressive power to convey the school's charm,' 'ease of introduction into sessions (scenarios),' 'skill in using existing settings, rules, and data,' 'game design sense,' and the like will likely be points for consideration. Please try to express the 'fun of the school' using your own strengths.
I remember thinking at the time it was announced, 'I can set original magic! Amazing!!' and 'I wonder what I should do about the contest judging and scoring criteria... I don't feel like I can do it well, but let's just take it easy...' as I thought about it.
Also, looking back at my notes, it seems I was thinking about making it a school that pioneers new magical cuisine around the end of September.
Regarding the content of the original magic and the school's settings, I couldn't quite decide, so the submission ended up being in December.
And the side school that was decided on was 'Magic Food Missionary Society'
, a side school like a club for spreading magical cuisine.

From here on, I will post additional materials other than the 'School Sheet,' along with commentary and trivia on why I set them up that way.
○ Concept of School Creation Magic [Stock]
The magical cuisine added in 'Collection Diary' is attractive. However, PCs with surplus achievement points have their anchor slots filled and no room for items, and new PCs would rather raise their ability scores than buy one item, so I wanted magic that would allow them to use various magical cuisines as if they were trying them out. So, referring to [Support] (Basic p.126) and [Treasure] (Twilight Selection p.144), I thought about preparing [Stock] by choosing favorite magical cuisines within a set range (4 achievement points). Metagame-wise, it's also a feeling of 'I hope I can spread my favorite magical cuisine.'
・I remember worrying about how many achievement points to make it worth.
・Honestly, I thought 4 points might be too much, but I thought it would be sad if high-class magical cuisine was left out, so I made it 4.
・I felt that the Golden Apple was more of an ingredient than a dish, so I decided to exclude only that.
・I included [Agreement] because the representative is a dragon species, and I had the image that if they were trying to spread magical cuisine, they would have various connections.
○ About the Magic Food Missionary Society
The <Magic Food Missionary Society> is a side school where people who want to spread the goodness of the magical cuisine they love gather. Like Japanese and Western food, they call magical cuisine 'Magic Food' as a food genre, and everything else 'Common Food'.
・'Magical cuisine' is four characters long, and if you try to put it in the school name, it gets even longer, so I wanted a way to call it quickly... so I coined the term 'Magic Food'.
・'Magic Food' and 'Common Food' is a bit of a wordplay on Japanese and Western food.
・Also, since fools are called 'common people,' I used 'Common Food' in the sense of food for common people.
The <Magic Food Missionary Society> welcomes both magical chefs and non-magical chefs. The condition for joining this side school is that 'you have a magical cuisine you love.' Whether you like one type of magical cuisine, like multiple types, like making them, like eating them yourself, like their effects, or like their taste, it doesn't matter. The reason for your love is not questioned. Except for some parts, it is a loose, club-like school.
Regarding the provision of magical cuisine, if you are a magical chef, you provide the magical cuisine you made yourself. On the other hand, if you are not a magical chef, you procure magical cuisine from friends in the Magic Food Missionary Society or from elsewhere.
・To broaden the entry as much as possible, I made 'having a magical cuisine you love' the condition, regardless of whether you are a magical chef or not.
As a rule of the Magic Food Missionary Society, everyone is to set up a street stall in Sextant City all at once once a year. This is called a 'Carnaval' (Food Festival). The 'Carnaval' is an event that combines activities to spread magical cuisine, interaction with other schools, and meetings within the school. It is an important opportunity not only to make and serve food, but also to give and receive connections with people and peace of mind through food.
・If you're going to 'spread magical cuisine,' there should be a food festival.
・It's a glamorous event, so it's good.
・Sextant City is a demon realm, so such events are allowed. Probably, maybe.
・I hope the Heart of Darkness doesn't come to steal the magical cuisine. (They probably would.)
○ Enrolled Mages
'Food is a Mellow Jewel' Mellow Mallow Third Tier, Female
She just loves delicious magical cuisine. She especially likes sweet things.
She is a young dragon species of the three-headed dog (Cerberus) type who is the representative of the <Magic Food Missionary Society>. She usually takes the form of a modern girl. She is not a magical chef. And she has no intention of becoming a magical chef in the future; she aims to be the strongest gourmet reporter in the magical cuisine world.
As the representative of the <Magic Food Missionary Society>, she asks people to verify rumors of legendary magical cuisine and hosts events like cooking battles on a whim.
She used to belong to the <Heart of Darkness>, but she loved eating so much that fighting became a hassle, so she left the school. After that, she thought, 'How can I get my hands on something more delicious?' and decided to start the <Magic Food Missionary Society>.
When things are inconvenient or become a hassle, she has a habit of trying to escape by talking about a chronic illness, saying, 'Ugh, my chronic curse-induced character-shaped laceration is...'
・When preparing the two enrolled mages, I kept in mind to make them different types, emphasizing that the Magical Gastronomy Mission has all sorts of people and considering how easy it would be to introduce them.
・When I tried to think of someone who isn't a chef but is involved with food, what immediately popped into my head was It's a treasure chest! was.
・I'm sure they would definitely say "How delicious (incantation)" when using [Essence Absorption], and they might even write a gourmet report. The name "Mellow" comes from the aging of food and drink (mellow), and "Marrow" comes from marrow and the name Maro. Viva the Mellow-Maro of essence absorption.
・I found the explanation that "Causal Text-Type Lacerations" might be a disease that manifests when leaving a school interesting, so I touched upon it. The Dark Heart has librarians related to gluttony and food, so it feels appropriate that they defected from there.
・The reason I set them as a Cerberus is that I learned Cerberus is the phantom beast corresponding to gluttony in the Seven Deadly Sins, and there is also a legend that they love honey cookies, so I thought they were suitable as a representative.
・The reason they are young is based on the description that "some young dragon-kin yearn for the outside world and cooperate with the Grand Codex (Twilight Selection Book P140)." They don't seem like the type to hole up in a nest as a guardian of treasure, so I figured they must be young. Since their treasure is food, they are the type to fly around.
"According to Ramen" Mitsukuni Ajito Third Step, Male
A magical chef who loves "ramen with a story." He is a man with the air of a stubborn old man, traveling the world with a mysterious ramen stall. "According to Ramen" is also the name of his shop.
He calls himself a "humble ramen shop owner," but he is a former elite book warden of the <Grand Codex>. During the Great Destruction, he reached his mental and physical limits from constant fighting and defected from the Grand Codex. Later, he met Mellow-Marrow, and after eating the "ramen with a story" they recommended, he joined the <Magical Gastronomy Mission> and became a magical chef.
Although he left the <Grand Codex>, he hasn't cut ties with them and often communicates with the doorways. He feels guilty about leaving the <Grand Codex>, so he mediates work from the <Grand Codex> to the members of the <Magical Gastronomy Mission> under the guise of a side job, and he takes on jobs himself as well. Because of this, although the <Magical Gastronomy Mission> itself does not have a defined classification for side schools, it seems there is a tendency to view it as an allied school of the <Grand Codex>.
Compared to the unbridled Mellow-Marrow, Mitsukuni Ajito is conservative and often speaks up with a <Grand Codex>-like mindset, so he is sometimes teased as "our (Magical Gastronomy Mission's) stubborn old man."
・The model is Tokugawa Mitsukuni. He is said to be the first person in Japan to eat ramen (the fact that there are various theories about this makes it feel like a story), he compiled the Dai Nihonshi, and he was the catalyst for the creation of the real-life Mito School and (though it's fiction) he traveled around the country. He is a fascinating figure.
・The surname of his temporary name is taken from Mito. Water (Mizu) -> Taste (Aji).
・The setting of "humble ramen shop owner" came from letting my imagination run wild from "ate ramen + retired master of a crepe wholesaler." I am conscious of the incantation of [Disguise]. He is a retiree in the sense that he left the Grand Codex.Crepe is not curly noodles, though.
・The reason I made him a former book warden is that the aforementioned [Disguise] suits him, and I thought it was flavorful that a former book warden would love food that the Apocrypha loves.
・I wrote that I kept in mind to make the enrolled mages different types, but the specific contrasts I intended were:
Modern girl <-> Stubborn old man
Unbridled <-> Conservative
Not a magical chef <-> Magical chef
Creating connections within the Magical Gastronomy Mission <-> Creating connections outside the Magical Gastronomy Mission
・I think he meets with Mr. Kagehara to get permission to hold the "Food Festival," and I think he can't say no to Mr. Kagehara.
I was looking up stories about Tokugawa Mitsukuni and ramen, and I found some other interesting stories, so I'll post a link.
Is it true that he was a gourmet who loved noodles and even showed off his own udon-making skills to his retainers?? I was surprised. I'm starting to feel like it wouldn't be strange for him to make ramen with a story himself.
And his divine name is "Takayuzuru Umashimichine no Mikoto" Takayuzuru Umashimichine no Mikoto
I think this is the first time I've seen "umashi" read as "taste."
A name that seems overflowing with umami.
Is there a possibility that umami can be read as "umau mashi"...?
In closing
Looking back like this, I thought it was fun to think about.
Now, people around me are talking about the Side-School Contest, and it feels like a festival, which is fun!
