How to be happy: 'Don't jump to conclusions'
The title image is a 'Dankoubai' (Lindera obtusiloba).
One of its flower meanings is 'Find me'.
It blooms with small yellow flowers in the mountains in spring.
It is not flashy, but it is a flower that lets only those who notice it know that spring has arrived.
Happiness is somewhat similar.
Even if it is right in front of you, there are things you will pass by if you do not notice them.
An incident where I was called out to in the city
When walking in the city, you sometimes get called out to by strangers.
Solicitations, advertisements, surveys.
After experiencing this many times, you naturally become cautious.
One day, while I was walking carrying my child,
a foreigner spoke to me from behind.
They were speaking quickly, using gestures, and seemed desperate to convey something.
The moment that happened, what came to mind was
the thought, 'Is this another solicitation?'
However, what that person was pointing at was
my child's shoe.
The shoe of the child I was carrying was about to fall off.
They were just kindly letting me know.
The meaning of an event is often not understood on the spot
What I felt from this incident was that
the meaning of an event is often not understood on the spot.
At first, I thought, 'I've been dragged into something troublesome.'
But in reality, I was being helped.
If I had ignored them and kept walking,
my child's shoe might have fallen off somewhere.
The meaning of the events right in front of us
is not always clear from the start.
People turn 'unknown' into 'bad'
People are not good at situations where the meaning is unknown.
When we encounter an event we cannot understand,
we tend to think like this:
'It must be something troublesome.'
'It must be something unpleasant.'
In other words,
we interpret things we don't understand
as being bad.
But in reality,
whether that event is good or bad
is often not yet decided on the spot.
It is easy to make mistakes in judgment in places with a lot of information
In the city, various information is flying around.
Touts
Advertisements
Solicitations
People's voices
In an environment with many stimuli, people naturally become defensive.
Then, instead of judging calmly,
we develop a habit of judging reflexively.
Even though it might actually be a kind voice,
we sometimes decide from the start that 'it's better not to get involved.'
Leave places that confuse you
In order to spend your time happily,
it is also important to protect your own judgment.
Places with too much information
Environments with too many stimuli
Situations where you are constantly forced to make judgments
If you stay in such places for a long time,
your heart gets tired, and it becomes difficult to see things calmly.
At such times,
it is also important to take a little distance.
When the environment changes,
the way you see events can also change.
Summary
In life, events occur whose meaning we do not understand.
At that time, people
tend to immediately judge them as 'unpleasant things'.
However, the meaning of an event
is often not understood on the spot.
That is precisely why,
• Don't jump to conclusions
• Don't decide that things you don't understand are bad
• Take a little distance from environments that confuse you
Such small awareness
will change the way you see events.
Happiness is not something that exists only in special places.
It might be right nearby, you just haven't noticed it.
Just as the Dankoubai flower
blooms saying 'Find me',
there may be meanings in life's events that you cannot yet see.
