How to be happy: 'Finding the shoes that fit you'
The flower is an 'Allium'.
Its flower language is 'correct assertion'.
There are many things in this world.
Health methods,
study methods,
ways of working,
and child-rearing.
If you read books,
experts will tell you, 'This is the right way'.
If you open social media,
someone is saying, 'This is the correct answer'.
Of course,
those are surely not wrong.
However,
what is correct and what fits you
are slightly different.
I
love Saeko Inui's picture book
'I Love You Just the Way You Are'.
In it,
there is a line that says,
'Even if shoes fit 99 people,
they are meaningless if they don't fit you'.
When I read it for the first time,
it struck a chord in my heart.
Because I feel like I
have always been looking for shoes for the 99 people.
The shoes everyone is wearing.
The highly-rated shoes.
The shoes worn by successful people.
I thought that if I wore those,
I could be happy too.
But,
no matter how good the reputation is,
if your feet hurt, you cannot walk.
No matter how magnificent they are,
if the size doesn't fit, it is just painful.
I think happiness is the same.
Some people are happy waking up early in the morning.
Some people are happy reading books while staying up late.
Some people like being with many others.
Some people like time alone.
Some people want to get ahead in their careers.
Some people want to live a peaceful life.
It is not a matter of which is correct.
It is about whether it fits that person's feet.
I, too, used to think,
I must be more sociable.
I must be more active.
I should be more like this.
I was always thinking about things like that.
But recently,
I have started to think,
'Will these fit my feet?'
Rather than forcing myself to wear shoes that don't fit,
if I look for shoes that fit me,
I can walk much further.
Rather than borrowing someone else's correct answer,
I will collect things that my heart feels comfortable with,
little by little.
Instead of shoes that fit 99 people,
I will look for the pair that fits me.
Not using correctness as a standard,
I believe that is undoubtedly a way to become happy.
A book that influenced me in writing this article
'I Love You Just the Way You Are' by Saeko Inui
It is a picture book for children, but
it is a book that reaches deep into the hearts of adults as well.
'Even if shoes fit 99 people,
they are meaningless if they don't fit you'.
This phrase
has become an important guide
when thinking about happiness that is true to myself.
I recommend it to those who want to find a way of life that fits them,
rather than someone else's correct answer.
Please take a look.
