[Tanka] Requiem

Hello, this is Tsukuda the poet.
Today is the 80th anniversary of the end of the war. And even now, wars continue in conflict zones around the world, and innocent lives are being taken.

Today, I have composed some poems for the souls of those who passed away in these conflicts, and while reflecting on war. It took me a while to compose these, and I am sorry for being so late.🙇

May the souls of the departed rest in peace.

Thinking of mother, thinking of daughter, I hold a gun; why did it come to this, looking up at the same sky.

Since I have only arms to hold you, I offer at least that suffering and pain.

May you be healed along with the rising smoke; the mourning heart repeats the bell.

Having become a demon in battle and survived, I apologize to the souls, choking on remorse.

In the middle of the night, my grandfather's voice echoes, strained, just repeating 'it couldn't be helped'.

We who do not know war watch the pain of Gaza on liquid crystal screens.

Offering chrysanthemums to the souls that returned only as bones without names, I pray for peace.

Cherry blossoms bloom, spring comes to Chidorigafuchi, and the souls in the cemetery sprout as rapeseed blossoms.

Bullets created every tragedy. July 7th, the Marco Polo Bridge incident, is Tanabata.

Oh, homeless bones, buried in the chrysanthemums of floral offerings, sleep forever in the summer of the Budokan.
