Solo travel for the mature woman. Sapporo & Otaru, Solitary Gourmet Edition🍊
A 3-day, 2-night trip to Sapporo and Otaru.
This is the gourmet edition.
Since there are so many delicious things in Hokkaido,
I have to pack everything I want to eat into these 3 days and 2 nights!
…So, I'll start making a plan.
My solo travel plans are
basically always loose and rough,
but when it comes to gourmet information,
I do thorough research in advance.
○ Whether it's easy for a woman to enter alone
○ Whether I have to wait in a long line
○ Whether a reservation is essential
and so on.
Researching in advance allows me to use my travel time effectively,
which is great.

What I really wanted to eat in Sapporo was Jingisukan (Genghis Khan).
Hmm...?
It's my first time having Jingisukan alone, but
is the portion too big? Can I finish it by myself?😅
(By the way, I'm not at all worried about being embarrassed to grill and eat meat alone. Lol)
So I searched online for "Sapporo, solo, Jingisukan," and this restaurant came up.

They have a menu for solo diners.
I can choose 3 types of meat I like,
which is just the right amount for me.
I sit at the counter,
grilling and eating the meat one piece at a time with a grin on my face alone😋
So delicious—and tender!
When I picked out the things I wanted to eat,
I realized I might not be able to eat all of it in a 3-day, 2-night trip,
which is a problem😅 (Yes, I'm being too greedy)
So, I decided to book a hotel plan without breakfast,
and concluded that I have no choice but to eat a seafood bowl from the morning!
I went to Nijo Market, which opens early in the morning,
bought some crab as a souvenir, and had breakfast right there.
I had a three-topping bowl with salmon, scallops, and crab, along with crab miso soup.

Of course, I couldn't skip Sapporo ramen.
I had a ramen shop in Susukino on my list, so I went there late at night.
…And, while walking through the night streets, I suddenly realized something.
A woman in her late 40s who can't even drink alcohol, all by herself,
in Susukino at night—is this okay?
Could it be that I'm doing something wrong?💦
…Well, whatever.
I pulled myself together and headed to the shop I was aiming for.
There was a line at the shop,
and looking at the people in line, I felt like I was out of place, so...
I had butter corn ramen at another shop nearby.

I was also looking forward to soup curry.
This seemed to be a popular shop; I got a numbered ticket in front of the store and waited about an hour to get in.
It had a whole chicken leg and plenty of vegetables.
I asked for mild spice, and it was so delicious that I drank the whole soup!

Well, it's a trip where I'm constantly full, but
sweets are essential✨
After enjoying picking out souvenirs at Rokkatei,
I had a Marusei ice cream sandwich at the cafe.

Otaru. I had an adzuki bean soft-serve ice cream at a shop I just wandered into.

Also in Otaru.
Grilled scallop. It was quite filling.

Double Fromage at LeTAO.
Fluffy🥰

I had so much delicious food in Sapporo and Otaru,
it was a very satisfying trip.
Eating with family or friends while saying "This is delicious!"
is nice, but
when I'm alone, I can focus on eating,
and I feel like I can savor it more deeply.
Just like Goro Inokashira from my favorite show,
"Solitary Gourmet"...
Savoring every single bite,
doing a play-by-play and commentary in my head (lol),
facing the food directly, and being grateful.
Everything was delicious!
Thank you for the meal😋
Thank you for reading until the end!
