[selfish] I summarized the characteristics of live idol choreography into 4 quadrants to think about selfish's choreography
Introduction
This time, I have summarized my thoughts on the choreography of the idol group selfish.
I would like to start writing about the choreography right away, but
Before that!
Currently, it seems that a project has started from the official note site called "Let's talk about your oshi! Your note will create this year's oshi artist/oshi comedian ranking."
I think that major idols and established artists will mostly be featured, but I would be happy if selfish and talented live idols could get some spotlight by being mixed into such a project.
Also, I would definitely like note to do a project that narrows down the target within the oshi-katsu scene, like "Let's talk about live idols!" It would definitely be interesting.
Now, moving on to the main part.
I summarized the choreography into 4 quadrants
First of all, I am a total amateur, so I don't know anything about dance styles or difficulty levels. "That's amazing!" or "That's super cute"—that's the level of my verbalization. However, since I can't grasp the characteristics of selfish's choreography with just that, I divided idol groups I've seen live several times into 4 quadrants based on their characteristics.
By dividing them into 4 quadrants, I clarified which groups are the objects of comparison and their positioning, and thought about selfish's position = characteristics.
Here is the conclusion

Vertical axis: Type of performance
Top: Artistry/Message-driven
(Focuses on expressing lyrics and worldview)
Bottom: Entertainment/Excitement
(Focuses on the sense of unity and fun on the floor)
Horizontal axis: How they interact with fans
Left: Dancing together/Participating
(Focuses on ease and frequency of copying the choreography)
Right: Watching and enjoying/Captivating
(Focuses on the complexity and perfection of the dance)
I crossed them to identify the types for each quadrant
■ Top Right [Artistry × Showcasing]
Group: Title Mitei
An artist type that expresses a unique worldview through advanced dance.
The video is "Hakumei Kousen" by Title Mitei.
The impression of Title Mitei's choreography is completely different when seen in a video versus live. When seen live, the movements are larger and more delicate than in the video, and it is captivating. Of course, there are songs like "Natsu no Orange" where you can enjoy the choreography, but essentially, I think this is where they belong.
■ Bottom Right [Entertainment × Showcasing]
Group: selfish
A type that showcases the world of the lyrics through choreography while retaining elements of choreography copying and catchy idol-like features.
The video is "Kassai" by selfish.
In my sense, I think selfish is a group where idol elements and artist elements coexist well. There are catchy choreographies like "Hanataba" and "Hoshikuzu," as well as songs with high artistic elements like "Happyish" and "Tokai," making them well-balanced as an idol group.
■ Bottom Left [Entertainment × Participation]
Group: iLife
A party type where everyone gets excited, with lots of choreography copying and many calls. A so-called 'waki-kei' (hype-focused) group.
The video is "AiniKiTE" by iLife.
iLife's live shows are truly fun. Even if you don't know the choreography or calls, you can get hyped by the atmosphere, and the members' crowd-leading is top-notch, so I personally think they are at the pinnacle of this genre. I am always impressed by their stamina to keep going until the end while doing that much choreography.
■ Top Left [Artistry × Participation]
Group: Task have Fun
A type that, while having many elements for choreography copying and participation, also possesses showcasing elements, with slightly higher difficulty or variety.
The video is "Hey! Diary" by Task have Fun.
This was the most difficult quadrant to select for, but I chose Task have Fun. For example, if Perfume is [Artistry × Showcasing], live idol Task have Fun is closer to the fans, and I felt that the amount and difficulty of the choreography were slightly higher in terms of artistry, so I chose them as the representative of this quadrant.
Conclusion
In my mind, when dividing into 4 quadrants, selfish is a balanced type of [Entertainment × Showcasing]. It's not that there are no calls at all, but there aren't too many either. You can listen to the singing properly, and it's high-level. Because the choreography also has clear highlights and climactic points, you can enjoy the value of 'unity,' which is the charm of live idols.
In conclusion,
Whether it's the choreography or anything else, it's too well-balanced. (In a good way, of course)
Next time, I will write about 5 songs with choreography I like from selfish.
The song with the most movement and the hardest choreography
selfish "Bon Voyage"
