[selfish] Announcing my 2025 selfish setlist awards!
Introduction
It is finally New Year's Eve.
2025 started with fandom activities, and it looks like it will end with them too.
For this final note of the year, I would like to announce my personal selfish setlist awards, for which I have shown an abnormal level of obsession, haha!
Why am I so obsessed with setlists?
I touched on this in “[Fandom Record] The story of how I made a selfish setlist selector roulette machine using Gemini's Canvas” but I will mention it again here.
First of all, what is a setlist selector roulette machine? Haha.
Abbreviated as "SSRM". Sounds kind of cool.
What is a setlist to a live idol?
For live idols, the setlist is extremely important!
This is because while live idols perform many shows throughout the year, they have a small number of songs. Taking selfish as an example, they had over 150 performances in 2025, and with an average of 6 songs per performance, they actually sang over 900 songs throughout the year.
Out of those 900 songs, how many songs does selfish have in their repertoire...?
18 songs!!!!!
If you build a setlist with 6 songs, there are 13.36 million possible combinations.
*↑ The note linked here actually has a pretty good punchline, but it has few views...
Moreover, there were 7 new songs in 2025, so at the beginning of the year, there were only 11 songs.
This is not limited to selfish; as the name suggests, live idols are all about performing live. Therefore, the number of live performances increases, but since not every group can release dozens of new songs in proportion to the number of performances, it is inevitable that they will end up singing the same songs many times.
Therefore, for the management side, coming up with creative setlists is necessary to ensure that the fans they have gained do not get bored. Also, from the fan's perspective, just changing the order of the songs changes the impression of the live performance, so I think it is one of the ways to enjoy a live show, and I actually enjoy it thinking that “a setlist is a living thing.”
In short, the context changes depending on the order of the same songs.
Because of that, even if they sing the same songs, the listener should not feel the same way.
I find value in that.
I think I am a troublesome otaku myself.
2025 selfish Setlist Awards
It is finally time to announce the awards.
This time, I selected from 6-song setlists, which make it easier to feel the story as a setlist and are also performed frequently.
Also, I chose from setlists that were actually performed, excluding the venue, status, and order of the day, and regardless of whether I went to the live show or not, I chose from a flat perspective.
Here are the results!!
[2025 selfish Setlist Grand Prize]
1. Bon Voyage
2. Overheat
3. Ao no Yohaku
4. Kokoro shite Aishite ne
5. Blue

*Click here for the live report from that day.
As mentioned before, whether or not I actually attended the live was not a factor, but as a result, it ended up being the setlist of a live I did attend!
Since the live reports are largely for my own reflection, I feel the significance of having written them so that I can look back on them like this.
From here on, I will write about the reasons for my choices.
*These are just my own opinions.
1st Song: Bon Voyage
For the first song, I focused on whether it was a track that could firmly establish the world of selfish.
In that case, candidates for the first song of the setlist would be "Bon Voyage," "Overheat," "Toumei Mujin," "Hoshikuzu," "Kassai," "Ao no Yohaku," and "Blue."
Among them, "Bon Voyage" has a strong connection to TIF, which was the highlight of this year, and the lyrics evoke the selfish concept of "swimming freely," so I thought "Bon Voyage" was the most appropriate choice for this year's opening song. It is truly a song about setting sail.
2nd Song: Overheat
First of all, "Overheat" is a song popular among fans. It is often used as the first song, but in terms of pulling the audience further into the world of selfish after grabbing them with the first track, "Overheat" as the second song is optimal.
Personally, I love the feeling of being certain that "Overheat" is coming when I see the circular formation during the first song, but it's the kind of song that experts appreciate when it appears as the second song or in the encore. lol
3rd Song: Ao no Yohaku
It is impossible to choose a setlist as the grand prize this year that excludes this song.
That is how important I think this song is for the "future" of selfish.
As I wrote in the live report for that day, "Ao no Yohaku" is like a midfielder or a playmaker in soccer, and I feel it functions best in the role of connecting the first and second halves.
Personally, if it appears as the first song, I feel like the rest of the set might fizzle out, and if it appears in the encore, I don't think it's as suitable as "Kassai" or "Hoshikuzu."
However, as I wrote earlier, because of the context, "Ao no Yohaku" functions no matter where it is selected. After all, there are 13.36 million possible combinations for a setlist.
4th Song: Kokoro shite Aishite ne
In terms of creating "tension" and "relaxation," this is the song that can express the widest range among current selfish tracks. Personally, I think it's a song that expresses cuteness well without breaking the world of selfish, and it's not one of those overly "aren't I cute?" songs from recent years.
Since Rei Kiseki wrote the lyrics, there is no way the world view would be broken.
After drawing the listener into the world of selfish with the first two songs and creating a peak with "Ao no Yohaku," "Kokoro shite Aishite ne" shows off a different side of selfish.
I think "Kokoro shite Aishite ne" here is a good essence.
Well, I understand that for fans, it's sugar or spice. lol
5th Song: Blue
After "Kokoro shite Aishite ne" is used as the fourth song, which song will appear next... This is a very important issue for me personally.
If you want to go with a cute vibe, "closet" is likely to appear later in the setlist, and if you are heading toward the finale, "Hoshikuzu" or "Kassai" appear. Alternatively, there is the option of "Happyish," which changes the atmosphere by 180 degrees.
The song that appeared at the live that day was "Blue."
As I wrote in the live report, it was such an emotional selection that it "fried my brain."
This is just my own speculation, but since "Kokoro shite Aishite ne" was billed as the cutest song in selfish history, I think the management might have thought it would be divisive. So, I speculate that the absolute justice of "Blue" was inserted afterward.
However, even setting aside the situation of that day, "Blue" here is quite acceptable.
It pulls back the world view that had leaned too much toward cute with "Kokoro shite Aishite ne." There is the "canned coffee" line that I can mention if it's my main group, there is Nanako-san's emotional "Aoii haru no mama de~" part, and Rei-san stands firmly at the front to close it out at the end. There is no song as reliable as this.
Therefore, "Blue" is like being in a star state in Mario Kart, and selfish is invincible at this moment.
6th Song: Kassai
The finale is "Kassai."
When choosing the setlist grand prize, I feel it's trivial to write the reason for "Kassai" being the finale.
First of all, "Kassai" is the highlight song of this year. The "Kassai (A cappella ver.)" that broke out at the TIF finals was a shock that I might never experience again in my life as a fan (even though it's only my first year).
Returning to "Kassai" as the finale, the reason is that it is a song I love, and my favorite member sings the beginning and the end. The finale starts with my favorite member and ends with my favorite member. And it's "Kassai," which is perfectly suited for it.
Since this is a personal setlist grand prize, that reason alone is enough.
The end was quite personal, but that concludes my explanation of the setlist awards.
I think new songs will be announced again next year.
That means the number of setlist combinations will increase.
The blue margin will never be filled.
It just keeps expanding as we aim higher.
Conclusion
Because they are a live idol group that performs over 100 shows a year, I pay as much attention to the setlist composition as I do to the songs themselves.
Whether it's 'femme fatale' during 'LadySteady Premium,' where they used most of their allotted time for MCs to build excitement, or 'Comiqon!' which unfolds their setlist without a single second of downtime, they are giving their maximum performance within their limited time.
The 'Kassai (Applause) A cappella ver.' from that day was exactly like that.
I'm looking forward to it so much that I already want to guess what kind of setlist will be put together when selfish stands on the main stage.
Once again, this is my final note for 2025.
Thank you for reading until the end.
I would be happy if you could read my other notes to pass the time during the year-end and New Year holidays!
