Weekly Short-Short Note: 'Heart-Throbbing Toe Shoes'

A young girl was staring at the toe shoes displayed in the shop window.
Her eyes were full of longing.
I, the shop owner, called out to her.

"Do you want those shoes?"
"Yeah. I'll be able to buy them once I save up a little more pocket money."
"I see. Well then, I'll give you the rest as a gift. I'm sure these shoes want you to wear them, too."
"Really? ...But I'm not going to wear them. I'm giving them to my mom."
"To your mom? Does your mom do ballet?"
"...Ballet? No, she doesn't. These shoes are for grown women to wear, right? See, the heel part is high. I can't wear them."
"Ah, you're looking for high heels. These are shoes for ballet, so they're a bit different."
"Is that so? ...Wait, then, can I wear these shoes?"
"If you start ballet, these are the shoes I'd want you to wear. Why don't you go home and talk to your mom? And try looking for high heels at a shoe store."

The girl's face as she looked up at me was filled with excitement.
