Different Genres, Different Formats. — All About SNS Operations (17)
In the previous article, "Insights are a Map," I wrote about the seven insight metrics and a weekly review routine.
This time, I will explain the "post structures that easily increase save rates" by genre.
In article (3), I introduced four post formats, but even with the same format, the effectiveness varies by genre. Knowing the structure that suits your genre will speed up improvements in your save rate.
Why does the effectiveness of a format change depending on the genre?
The reasons why readers save posts differ by genre.
"I want to try this later," "I want to make sure I don't forget," "I want to share this with someone," "I want to read this over and over"—the structure that resonates changes depending on what this motivation is.
Readers in the cooking genre save posts because they "want to look back at the recipe later." Readers in the business genre save them because they "want to put them into practice later." The entertainment genre saves them because they "want to show them to someone."
If the motivation is different, the optimal structure is also different.
Post structures that increase save rates by genre
Know-how/Business
The format that increases the save rate the most in this genre is the "step-by-step format."
This structure, "X steps to achieve Y," shows readers procedures they can execute immediately. What is important is that each step is concretized to the level of "actions that can be taken today." Abstract steps like "change your mindset" or "rethink your way of thinking" are less likely to be saved.
Numerical benchmark: Posts with 3 to 7 steps, where each step includes one concrete action, tend to have a save rate 3-4% higher than average.
Structure to avoid: A composition where steps begin after a long introduction. If readers cannot see the number of steps and the content at the beginning, they will leave without reading to the end.
Cooking/Recipe
The format that increases the save rate the most in this genre is the "complete material + procedure format."
It is a prerequisite that ingredients, quantities, and procedures are all included in a single post. If you split the information by saying "see the link in the profile for details," the save rate will drop significantly.
Numerical benchmark: Posts where ingredients and procedures are completed within the post tend to have a save rate 5-8% higher than those that are not.
Effective additions: Adding information about time or shelf life, such as "can be stored in the refrigerator for 3 days" or "can be made in 10 minutes," further increases the save rate. This is because it allows readers to concretely imagine the "usage scenario."
Beauty & Fashion
In this genre, the "comparison type" has the highest save rate.
The contrast structure of "common mistakes" vs. "correct methods," "affordable" vs. "high-end cosmetics," or "before" vs. "after" is visually easy to understand and increases the motivation to save.
Numerical benchmark: Posts with comparison elements tend to have a 2–5% higher save rate than posts that convey information on their own.
Effective additions: Adding conditions like "suits people with XX face type" or "can be used in XX situations" makes it easier for readers to see it as "relevant to themselves," which also increases the comment rate.
Mental Health & Lifestyle
In this genre, the "verbalization type" has the highest save rate.
Posts that accurately verbalize what readers "felt vaguely but couldn't put into words" are strongly saved.
The important thing is not to end with just empathy. Posts that end with "I get it" gather likes but are rarely saved. By using a structure of "I get it + so I will do this," the save rate increases.
Numerical benchmark: Posts that pair the verbalization of emotions with concrete action proposals tend to have a 4–6% higher save rate than posts that only offer empathy.
Side Hustles & Money
In this genre, the "concrete numerical type" has the highest save rate.
Rather than abstract expressions like "you can earn money" or "you can save money," posts that use specific numbers like "30,000 yen per month" or "a difference of 240,000 yen per year" have a clearly higher save rate.
This is because whether or not a reader can imagine applying it to their own situation is the criterion for deciding to save.
Numerical benchmark: Posts that include specific amounts, timeframes, or frequencies in the title or opening tend to have a 3–6% higher save rate than those that do not.
Structure to avoid: Posts that end only with personal experience stories like "This is how I earned money." If they do not include steps that allow the reader to judge "whether I can do it too," they will not be saved.
Parenting and Education
In this genre, the 'scene-specific solution' format yields the highest save rates.
This structure involves presenting a specific scenario at the beginning—such as 'when you're struggling to get them to sleep,' 'when they have a tantrum,' or 'when they won't do their homework'—and then providing an immediately actionable solution.
It gets saved the moment the reader feels, 'This is exactly my situation right now.' The more specific the scene, the more effectively it resonates with the target reader.
Benchmark figures: Posts with specifically defined scenes tend to have a 4–7% higher save rate than general advice-style posts.
Steps to identify the structure of your genre
Step 1
Check three high-save posts from five competitor accounts in your genre.
Step 2
Write down the structure of each post (patterns for the opening, information flow, and conclusion).
Step 3
Identify one common pattern.
Step 4
Apply that pattern to your next post.
Step 5
Measure the save rate 48 hours after posting and compare it to your previous average.
'Choose the format that fits your genre'
There is not just one format for posts.
It is important to understand why your genre's readers save content and then choose a structure that aligns with that motivation.
Even with the same amount of effort put into a post, whether the structure matches the reader's motivation creates a significant difference in the save rate.
In the next article, I will analyze the situation where 'follower count increases but revenue does not' using data, and explain the causes and solutions.
