In your 50s, the second half of life changes through 'action'

Hello everyone.
I am currently engaged in activities that
support starting action from your 50s.

What I mean by 'starting action' is, simply put,
a call to 'take the knowledge and experience you have accumulated so far and put it to use for someone else.'

To everyone who has lived until their 50s,
I am sure you have had many hardships and painful experiences.

Some of you may even be thinking,
'I want to pass that experience on to young people and give them a push.'

This time, I want this message to reach those who are feeling,
'I want to start something' or 'I can't go on like this.'

First, let me briefly look back at my own life.

I spent 29 years in the construction industry, working as a site supervisor, in sales, and as a sales office manager.
Honestly, I thought I had been building my career smoothly.

But one day, my company suddenly told me,
'Starting next month, you will be transferred to another affiliate company.'

In other words, to put it clearly, it was a demotion.
My place in the company began to disappear.

Even though I thought I had sacrificed time with my family by taking a job away from home,
of course, my decision-making authority was taken away, I was no longer invited to meetings I used to attend,
and I wasn't even given a chance to say goodbye when I left.
It felt as if my existence was being treated as 'non-existent' by the company.

However, this event became a major turning point in my life.

Here, I would like to ask you all a question.
'What do you want to change right now?'

Is it your job?
Is it time with your family?
Or is it your own way of living?

You want to change. But you are afraid.
I think there are many people who feel that way.
Actually, I was the same.

In my work as a manager,
I was at the center of the team, working hard with my colleagues every day,
and spending days feeling evolution and growth.
Just by closing a contract with a client, everyone could be happy.
That was the kind of environment it was.

But at home, I had no time to face my children.
Before I took the job away from home, my eldest son was in his first year of elementary school, and before I knew it, he was in junior high.
It was truly a state of single-parenting.

And yet, what was the result?

Instead of being rewarded, I got a demotion as a bonus.
Because the environment changed so drastically,
I felt deeply depressed and almost broke down,
wondering, 'What was my life all about?'

(At such times, it was always running that reset my feelings.)

But at that moment, I finally realized,
'What I really wanted wasn't status or evaluation.'

In truth,
・I wanted to be recognized by someone
・I wanted the sense of fulfillment that comes from working hard with colleagues
・I wanted to cherish the time spent with my family
・And above all, I wanted the feeling that I was 'living my own life'

I began to seriously think that I had to do something from now on.
If I stayed like this, this state would continue forever.

So from that time on, I started studying a lot.
Even though I never had the habit of reading business books,

I bought and read various books that were popular at the time.
When I did that, I learned a tremendous amount.
For example, books about ways of thinking.

I thought, 'I see, it's profound,' and it was certainly educational and worth knowing.
When I read books about starting a business independently, I thought, 'I see, that's what it means!'
'There's that way of thinking too!'
But honestly, I ended up just saying 'Huh' because I didn't know how to actually do it.

I also listened to seminars, watched YouTube, and listened to Voicy.
To put it coolly, I spent most of my time 'studying'.

But at some point, I finally realized it.

Every year I write this year's goals in a new planner,
and I had been writing the same thing every year.

'Start a business' or 'Become independent'.

And I realized that myself, too.
'Wait? I wrote this last year too.'
'And it feels like it was just the other day.'
Nothing has changed, and on top of that, time passes so quickly!
In other words, I am studying, but nothing has changed.
At best, I was just talking pleasantly when I went to an izakaya.

I felt like I was doing something with that.

But that is exactly why I can say it now.
Having learned knowledge and using that knowledge to take action are completely different things...
If you don't use the knowledge you've gained in practice,

it means nothing will change.
Until now, I was in a state of just hoarding knowledge without really using it.

So, where should I start?

First, a small step is fine.
・You don't have to aim for perfection
・Just looking back on your own experience is fine

What I did first was write an article on note.
I posted a short comment on Instagram.
I held a free seminar.
It was scary at first.
But as I kept doing it, I got reactions little by little,
and I even got the opportunity to speak at TEDx.

That is why I want to walk with people like this.
・People who think 'it's too late'
・People who feel they have no place in their company
・People who want to pass on their experience to someone
・People who want to change but are too scared to move

Everyone, don't you just assume that in your 50s, you are 'no longer young' or 'it's too late to start something...'?
But I believe that the 50s are a generation with tremendous value.

Because we have experience.

We know both the times things went well and the times we failed and felt frustrated.
That is precisely why we understand the subtleties of human relationships and can empathize with someone's feelings.
If we overlay the worries of young people with our past selves, we can naturally understand them.

The 50s have depth.
This depth is the greatest power to support or move someone.

Finally, I want to convey just this.
'You cannot change the past. But you can choose the future.'
Your experience definitely has meaning.
That experience will become a guidepost for young people.
Take a step with courage.
Let's pass that baton to the next person.

You're ready, aren't you? (laughs)
