Let me say this right off the bat.
It was absolutely amazing!!!!!!
It might be too early to say, but it was so good that this might be my personal masterpiece of 2022.
The setting of 'The Orbital Children' is 2045. It takes place on 'Anshin,' a Japanese-made commercial facility built in Earth's orbit.
Living there are two 14-year-olds named Toya and Konoha.
The two are the first children born on the moon, and they lost their parents in a certain accident.
Then, three people from Earth—Miina, Doctor, and Taiyo—arrive as part of a space experience campaign for minors.
At that moment, the situation suddenly begins to unfold...
The 'Anshin' facility where this story is set is a space station and a space hotel, but it has a giant crab attached to it like the Kani Doraku sign, giving it a design that feels a bit like a Fujiko F. Fujio sci-fi work, butas the story progresses, it becomes clear that this is a hardcore sci-fi story involving AI.
Overall, it's comical; the facility's design is silly, and the characters—including a chuunibyou boy and a silly space-tuber—don't feel serious at all, but the story itself is terrifyingly prophetic about the future relationship between AI and humanity.
However, that mismatch felt incredibly real.
Destruction that occurs suddenly in the midst of daily life.
In the second half, there were several scenes where I wondered if content had been cut due to time constraints, and when I looked it up, it turned out that was indeed the case.
The director, Mitsuo Iso, also seems to want those parts restored, so I really hope they make it happen!!!!
The theme song is also goosebump-inducingly good.
What language is it in??? Still looking into it.
