[Anime Review] Blue Exorcist: The story of the parent generation told after witnessing the children's suffering is too intense...
≪No spoilers included≫
*I will write about the settings revealed at the beginning.
Information on the anime "Blue Exorcist"
Dark Fantasy / 61 episodes (ongoing?) / Japan
Broadcast period: 2011–2025
Twin brothers, Rin and Yukio, raised by their foster father, Shiro Fujimoto, at a town monastery.
Rin is a problem child with intense emotional expression who cannot control his anger well. In contrast, Yukio is serious and the honor student type.
A story about the twins pursuing the secret of their birth, while being tossed about by demons and working hard together with their friends.
To explain the story's setting, I will write from here about the content revealed at the beginning.
If you want to watch it without any prior information, please skip this.
I will leave some space.
Unlike Yukio, who has decided to advance to the prestigious True Cross Academy, Rin has not decided on his future path.
Rin has a stronger sense of justice than anyone else, but he always ends up trying to solve things with violence, causing problems since he was a child.
Rin is growing increasingly frustrated with himself, wondering why he is the way he is.
One day, with no school or job prospects decided, he causes trouble at the part-time job he finally managed to get because he starts seeing something strange.
Rin begins to see the forms of demons... and hear the voices of demons.
And then he finds out. He learns that he is the son of the demon Satan.
His demonic powers awaken and go out of control. His foster father, Shiro, loses his life trying to stop it.
He is told by Mephisto Pheles, the principal of True Cross Academy and the Japan Branch Head of the True Cross Order, who came to kill Rin upon hearing that his demonic powers had awakened.
"I will become an Exorcist to kill Satan, the man who killed my old man."
Thus, Rin is specially permitted to enroll in the "Exorcist Cram School," an Exorcist training institution within True Cross Academy.
After starting to attend True Cross Academy, Rin realizes how little he knew until now, and realizes he knew nothing about his younger brother Yukio or his foster father Shiro.
With the eccentric members of the Exorcist Cram School, the conflict between the brothers, and their cursed pasts all intertwined, it is very, very interesting.
By the way, the existence of Satan is symbolized by blue flames, and since his son Rin also uses blue flames, it is called "Blue Exorcist".
In particular, in the 4th season, the Beyond the Snow Arc / The Night of the End Arc, the parent generation's story is gradually revealed, and it is such an intense story that you might think that is actually the main story...
It is structured like Star Wars, where the story goes back to the parents after the children's story is told, and the emotional impact is explosive.
Yeah, or rather, you realize the true appeal of "Blue Exorcist" after watching up to the 4th season... it is a long story that never gets boring.
Though it is quite interesting even before the 4th season.
By the way, there is a 4-year gap between the first and second seasons of the anime, and since the end of the first season is an anime-original development and the second season follows the original work, the continuity feels a bit off.
Let's just overlook that.
Anyway, once you start watching, please definitely watch up to the 4th season.
