[The Apothecary Diaries] A diary about buying the novels (just some anime talk ð€£)
For the past few years, I've also been hooked on anime ð
Originally, it started because I had too much free time after dinner once the kids had left the nest ð€£
Back then, I was into Korean dramas, so I had subscriptions to U-NEXT and Netflix, but when my husband found out we could watch anime on them too, he started digging through them, and that's how it all began ðº
At first, we mainly watched nostalgic anime âš
ãTomorrow's Joeã Joe Yabuki, a man who fights until he burns out. His loneliness and fighting spirit touch the heart. ãFist of the North Starã "You are already dead." This iconic line has been passed down through generations. ãSamurai Giantsã Banba Ban, who surprised the era with his high-jump magic pitch. A story where the samurai spirit dwells in baseball. ãSlam Dunkã A youth story that captivated even those who don't know basketball. Hanamichi's growth brings tears to my eyes. ãDragon Ballã A classic battle manga where Goku grows while fighting powerful enemies with his friends. A timeless masterpiece loved around the world. ãBLEACHã A story where Ichigo, who became a Soul Reaper, fights spirits with his friends. The unique world-building, such as Bankai, is captivating. ãHUNTERÃHUNTERã Young Gon enters the world of Hunters in search of his father. Along with unique friends, a story of intricate battles and growth unfolds.
And so on... ð
After all, my husband is from the generation raised on Weekly Shonen Jump! He's the type who says, "If it's not a sports or battle anime, it's not anime!"
(ï¿£âï¿£;)
I don't dislike them either, so I watched them with him, but ð
Then, my eldest son, who has loved anime since he was little, started recommending recent anime that his father might like every time he came back home to visit âš
ãJujutsu Kaisenã A dark fantasy about high school students fighting curses. It's a popular work with intense cursed technique battles and conflicts over life. ãBlack Cloverã An adventure fantasy where Asta, a boy without magic, struggles in a world where magic is everything. A classic battle story depicting bonds and growth with friends. ãChainsaw Manã Denji, a boy who made a contract with the Chainsaw Devil. A story about continuing to fight while carrying loneliness and conflict in a world of chaos and violence. ãThat Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slimeã The protagonist Rimuru, who was reincarnated as a slime in another world. A rags-to-riches fantasy where he builds a nation with his friends. ãMy Hero Academiaã A classic hero anime where Deku, a "quirkless" boy, inherits the quirk "One For All" and grows with his friends aiming to become the greatest hero.
And so on...!
My eldest son, you really hit the mark ð
In the meantime, my second son seems to have been influenced by his friends. Even though he used to say to his older brother, "Big brother, what's so fun about watching anime all the time?", he seems to be completely hooked now ðŠ It makes me laugh when they meet at home and talk about anime together ð€£
He seems to like anime where foreshadowing gets resolved
ãAttack on Titanã The fierce battle of humanity against titans and the shocking truth. A large-scale dark fantasy. ãSteins;Gateã A sci-fi suspense about time leaping. A masterpiece where the bonds with friends and the weight of choices touch the heart.
He recommended these to me âª
At the same time, he also loves anime that tugs at the heartstrings ð
Recently, he's started recommending anime that I might like, with the disclaimer, "I don't think Dad would ever watch these" ð
ãViolet Evergardenã A story about a girl who didn't know emotions searching for the meaning of "I love you." The beautiful visuals and quiet emotional impact stay with you. ãMy Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFUã A cynical high school student faces the meaning of human relationships and youth through his encounters. A unique youth romantic comedy that depicts conflicts over individuality and normalcy. ãCharlotteã Boys and girls with special abilities resist their fate. A story of growing and deepening bonds while fighting together.
I cherished watching these parts during my alone time (*â§ââŠ*)
There are two anime that I discovered on my own and have come to love so much ð
[SPYÃFAMILY] and
[The Apothecary Diaries]
are the ones âª
These are such major anime, everyone knows them, right? ð
But they have become treasure anime to me âª
[SPYÃFAMILY]
I wonder how many dozens of times I've watched seasons 1 and 2?
I even end up watching them in the background while doing chores ð
I watched the movie in theaters twice, of course, and I even went to the SPYÃFAMILY exhibition held in Tokyo!
I also bought all the available manga volumes and reviewed them ð
Anyway, I just love everyone in the Forger family so much ð
Lloyd's cool side, his kind side, and his clueless side at home ð
Yor's gap, and the way you can feel her clumsy love for Lloyd and Anya ð
Anya's cuteness in full bloom, and the way she tries to be considerate of her mom and dad ð
Bond's fear of Yor, and the way his enthusiasm sometimes misses the mark ð
The people around them are also very human, and while there are some grotesque parts, it's a wonderful anime ð€£ð
It looks like season 3 starts in October, so I'm really looking forward to it âšâš
And now, I'm completely hooked on
[The Apothecary Diaries].
From the moment I saw the ad on U-NEXT, it struck a chord, and I knew I had to watch it from episode 1.
After all, the historical setting and the mystery-filled content!
And a little bit of a rom-com feel ð
My expectations are at the max âª
Well, it managed to exceed those expectations brilliantly âš
I became a captive of the protagonist, Maomao, in no time ð
She looks cool at first glance, but she's actually full of curiosity, warm-hearted, and can't say no when asked for a favor ð
The interactions with the other protagonist, the beautiful eunuch Jinshi, are full of laughter and tears, and I can't take my eyes off them ð€
Most of the mysteries are solved in each episode, but there's also a sense of foreshadowing where everything connects in the end, so no matter how many times I rewatch it, I have discoveries like
"So that's what it meant!"
However, the content is quite deep, and there are times when I can't fully understand it or find it difficult ðŠ
At those times, I found videos on YouTube that analyze everything, including the anime, the original novels, and the manga!
This time, I watched those videos one after another.
The "So that's what it meant" moments really sank in, and I came to understand the depth of this story even more ð
At the same time, I realized that if I read the novels, I could enjoy the story in even more detail... ð€©
But, I already have so many unread books at home... ðŠ After agonizing over it!
For now, I went ahead and bought just three volumes (*â§ââŠ*)

Oh man, I'm so excited ð
I have a feeling the currently airing second season is coming to an end soon too ð
I plan to read the novels thoroughly and wait until the third season starts!
Sorry, my rambling went on for a bit too long ð
To everyone who stuck with me through my trivial chatter, thank you so much ð
