Short Story | Sea Breeze Ramune / Polar Bear Literature Club / A Story Like a Poem

Light blue is
a faint sweetness and the scent of salt, dissolved in the sea breeze.
A color that gently dyes the shadows reflected on the curtains at dusk.
When I listen closely, from a distant beach,
faint laughter and a fading cry reach me.

As a child, I would pick up seashells on the beach,
hold them to my ear, and listen to the sea.
The sound echoing in the hollow space nestled against the ache deep in my chest,
and for some reason, it gave me the courage to hide my tears.

Light blue tastes like ramune water with melting ice.
The coldness stings my throat,
and after that, only a faint sweetness remains.
Like the boundary between pain and hope.

Yet, light blue also harbors stillness.
The scent that spreads on the asphalt after the rain.
The length of the shadows sinking into the classroom after school.
Standing there, I could see loneliness become just a little bit transparent.

The sky is too vast to grasp,
and the sea is too deep to return my words.
The light blue drifting between them
was a place that connected the past and the future.
