[Rehearsal Diary 23] Insights from rehearsals with instrumental accompaniment and costumes

Rehearsals are underway for the Blue Island version of the operas "Urikohime no Yoru" and "Hanshin," which will be performed at the end of August.

Since we started blocking rehearsals, we have often rehearsed the two productions on the same day in separate time slots, but this week's schedule has us rehearsing the "Sudama" role for "Urikohime" after "Hanshin."

We usually rehearse with piano accompaniment, but on this day, we had the full ensemble of wind and string instruments as we will for the actual performance.

Different instrument melodies are assigned to each of the twins, and the moment their tone colors and movements perfectly aligned, it gave me goosebumps just watching.

We also wore our costumes on this day.
As someone playing the role of the twins' aunt, I got too excited and...

I stepped on the hem of my costume and fell orz

Fortunately, I wasn't injured, and the teachers were relieved.
Despite that mishap, it was a valuable time to be able to move in an environment just like the actual performance.

Reviewing the costumes

The aunt character in the original work wears a velvet pantsuit.
Because we were worried about the heat on stage in midsummer, we discussed an alternative early on and received approval.

However, when I saw all four of us playing the aunt roles wearing our costumes together, I became concerned about the balance with the other pair...

Since this role involves projecting the image of the twins in certain scenes, I decided to make a change because I didn't want to bring this sense of discomfort onto the stage.


There is only a little time left until the performance.
It was a day that made me feel once again that I should not overlook even small feelings of discomfort and should strive to prepare so that I can stand on stage with confidence.
