Time that feels truly enjoyable. That is "singing" Happy Writing Marathon #24 (Part 1)

For me, what I find truly enjoyable is, after all, "singing".

Sometimes that feeling gets clouded, but even so, when I return to my roots, I always come back to that.

When I was in high school, I attended lessons for acting, singing, ballet, and jazz dance.

After graduation, I had to give up that path for a while because a leg injury was slow to heal, but a few years later, when I started thinking about building a career as a teacher while interning at a college in the U.S.,

I suddenly felt that "it might be important to keep doing what I love."

Singing, dancing, or acting—.

I thought that if I were to continue something for a long time, it would be "singing," because I didn't want to let go of that overwhelming sense of liberation I feel when I sing to my heart's content all by myself.

When I returned to Japan and settled into my current home, I started attending an amateur opera group active in my local ward as a hobby my husband and I could enjoy together.

In that place, which I started with the lighthearted intention of "making friends in the neighborhood," I had several encounters that continue to this day.

From there, I met a teacher who would help me until I entered music college,
I met a pianist who was a student of the solfège teacher I visited as part of my entrance exam studies,

and after entering college, I met classmates and friends from nearby years, and even now that we have graduated, we have become friends who reminisce when we meet and support each other on stage.

Even after graduating from music college, there have been times when I talked to a pianist I met for the first time, only to find out we were from the same music college—deepening our connection through that coincidence.

The "singing" that began with the sense of liberation of singing to my heart's content all by myself,
had, before I knew it, turned into time spent weaving sounds together with "another music friend."

The trust built through lessons, practice, and performances.
The interactions and the synchronization of breathing that naturally emerge while creating music.

That has become as important to me as the sense of accomplishment on stage.

Of course, it might be a joy that can only be felt because of the fulfillment of a performance.
However, I think the very fact that "there are friends to create music with" supports the joy of singing.

I felt that again while preparing for an audition next week.
I would like to write a little about that in the second part.

💬Continued in Part 2: "Important things I realized before the audition"
