“What was an event that warmed your heart?” Happy Writing Marathon #19

The theme for October is
“Let’s look at my ‘richness’.”

Actually, I couldn't think of anything I wanted to write about for this topic right away.

In times like that, I try to look at the articles already posted by others,
and reflect on whether “I might have had similar experiences myself.”

As I traced my memories in that way, several events came to mind.

Each one is a moment when my heart suddenly warmed through “connections with others” or “the beauty of nature.”

The night of Obon I spent with my grandmother

A story about Obon when I was still in kindergarten.
My grandmother taught me, “During Obon, the souls of those who have passed away return. Today is the day they return to heaven.”

The souls of my grandfather and relatives who had already passed away before I was born were returning—.

As a young child, I believed those words without doubt and waved my hands desperately toward the twilight sky.

I still remember this memory from time to time,
because every time I have the opportunity to be seen by someone with spiritual intuition or a fortune teller,

they tell me, “You are strongly protected by the souls of your ancestors.”

Every time that happens, the scene of my younger self
sending off the souls of my grandfather and others with pure feelings comes back to me.

The first time I saw the Milky Way

The night of my school trip in the fourth grade of elementary school.
I still cannot forget the beauty of the starry sky and the Milky Way I saw for the first time.

It felt so close that I thought I could reach the sky,
and in that moment, my heart was filled with the thought of how vast the world is.

Words from a fellow musician

For a vocalist, a pianist is an irreplaceable partner.
It is even said that “a vocal solo is not just one singer, but two people, the singer and the pianist.”

I have had the privilege of working with many pianists, but I am still connected to a friend from my student days.

One day, while looking back on our collaboration that has lasted over 10 years,
we talked about “why has this lasted so long?”

The words he said to me then.

“That is because I like your music,
I like your voice, and I like your personality.
If I didn't have those feelings, I couldn't take on the work.”

I have trusted him as a partner in creating music together, but I still keep in my heart the day he conveyed those feelings in words.

Under the starry sky of Egypt

My trip to Egypt before the pandemic was a series of culture shocks.

The sound of prayers starting from the early hours of the morning.
A cruise ship that traveled down the Nile River over many days, stopping along the way.
Numerous ruins that I had only ever seen in photographs.

Among them, what I cannot forget is
the night of an outdoor party that turned into a long discussion due to a misunderstanding between the tour group and the local tour guide and instructor.

The atmosphere, which was hostile at first, gradually softened over time, and when we finally saw a compromise and smiles returned.

In the night sky behind the tent I suddenly looked up at,
stars were quietly twinkling and spreading out.
That starry sky I saw in the wind of a foreign land is a warm memory that still remains in my heart.

Finally

“Have I ever had an event that warmed my heart…?”
That is what I thought at first.

However, while reading other people's articles,
I remembered that there were many such events within me as well.

For you who might be feeling “I can't think of anything” right now,
there must be many warm memories that you just haven't noticed yet.

Remembering them and putting them into words.
I think that leads to “looking at the richness within yourself.”

This topic might take a little time to remember,
but if you look back, your precious memories will become even more precious,
and such a wonderful experience should be waiting for you.
