Lingering memories of my Hakodate trip and 3 hotels I want to stay at next
With so many things on my mind and
being so busy,
I almost missed posting on note,
but I want to keep it going somehow,
so I'll be updating it loosely
so that I can continue without pushing myself.
So, this time I'm going to look back on my weekend trip to Hakodate and write about things I didn't include last time.
I couldn't get into the card lounge!
Since there is no ANA lounge at Hakodate Airport,
I was planning to go to the card lounge (the one you can enter by showing a gold or higher card) if I wanted to use a lounge, but
to my surprise,
all the cards I had became unusable.
To be precise, it seems American Express is no longer accepted...
I looked into it a bit.
American Express will stop offering access to lounges at 15 domestic airports starting June 1st.
The airports where access will be discontinued are Hakodate, Aomori, Akita, Sendai, Niigata, Toyama, Komatsu, Okayama, Yonago, Yamaguchi Ube, Takamatsu, Matsuyama, Tokushima, Kitakyushu, and Oita.
Is this part of Amex's service downgrades?
It's a bit sad that an ANA premium card doesn't work
at an airport where ANA flights are constantly taking off,
and while it's a shock to be told 'you can't enter' when you get there,
I suppose if it's not available, I can just plan accordingly.
I'm glad they still work in places like Naha and Fukuoka💦
But with so many becoming unusable, there's no guarantee that the airport lounges in cities not affected this time will stay available forever, right?
Being able to use airport lounges is one of the joys of having a gold or higher card for travel lovers, so it's a shame.
Actually, I was a bit rattled by the fact that the only gold or higher cards I had were Amex😅
As for candidates for my next Hakodate hotel...
Are they tracking my location?
I happened to see an article like this on my way home.
Doesn't a hotel ranked 2nd in the country for its superb view make you want to stay there??
I've tentatively decided on the date for the next meetup,
and hotels and flights are reasonable if you book them early.
So, even though I booked it on impulse,
I'm still a little hesitant.
I am deeply drawn to breathtaking views.
However, this place does not have a sauna.
One of the big reasons I was so satisfied with OMO this time was the sauna I happened to find in the hot spring bath.
Other than at meetups, I eat sparingly; in fact, I find that fasting helps keep my physical condition from fluctuating too much.
This time, the sauna was what supported me, and
it really saved me.
When I search for hotels with saunas, a few candidates come up.
Goryokaku Hotel has a Finnish-style sauna. The stay is also reasonably priced.
However, it doesn't seem to have a hot spring, which is a dilemma.
It's near the station, making it easy to get around, and I'm drawn to it because I can enjoy both a hot spring and a sauna.
Or, should I stay at OMO again?
Until now, when staying in Hakodate, I often stayed at the former Four Points for Marriott status runs, but it has since rebranded and is now operated by a different company, and the only Marriott-affiliated property in Hakodate now is the recently opened Four Points Flex.
Since I was so satisfied with the hot spring and sauna this time, I want to broaden my options beyond Marriott.
・Hewitt, which doesn't have a sauna but offers hot springs and stunning views
・Goryokaku Hotel, which doesn't have a hot spring but offers excellent access to Goryokaku and is budget-friendly
・La'gent Stay, which definitely has a hot spring and sauna, and where I might find other things to enjoy
Once I look beyond the Marriott and Hilton properties I use for status runs, the range of options suddenly expands...
There is still plenty of time before the cancellation deadline, so I think I'll enjoy being indecisive for a little longer.
Which hotel would you choose?
Also, if you have any other recommendations, please let me know (^^)
