[Rehearsal Diary 1] Angelica First Rehearsal

The Tokyo Chamber Opera Theatre Sengawa Week will be held in May. In addition to "Madame de Sade," I will be performing in another production: Puccini's opera "Suor Angelica."

This day was our first music rehearsal.

This is my second time performing in this work.
I'll post a picture from when I first performed in it.

It was September 2010, right after I finished graduate school. I'm the second from the left in the back row.

I'll be playing the same role as 15 years ago, a young girl who is a nursing sister, but

Since I've done it once before,
I thought if it's the same role, I could manage even if the dates are close to "Madame de Sade" (a revival, also being performed on different days during Sengawa Week).

But then, I was being too laid back about it.

This time,
since the cast is also handling the chorus,
I'm feeling a bit panicked.

The reason is,
the vocal range is unexpectedly large, and

there are 11 named roles (cast members), but

the chorus is mainly the so-called nuns, excluding Angelica, the Abbess, and the Princess (who appears in the second half).

If a "maximum" of 8 people
are divided into 4 voice parts,

that's 2 people per part...?

I can't fake it if I'm unsure! 💦
(Was I planning on faking it...?)

Will I be okay? 💦
I was worrying about that as I headed to the rehearsal, but

I was immediately moved by the beauty of Puccini's music. ✨

It's healing.

It looks like I'll be busier with score reading than I imagined, but

the joy of singing,
the happiness of voices resonating together,

since it's also a time where I can feel those things,

I'm feeling motivated to do my best.

I'll write a little bit about the rehearsals and the work as I go along (^^)

so I'm reflecting on the fact that I should post about music from time to time.💦
