Achieving ANA Status and Hotel Status at Once! Recent Trends in 'Shugyo' (Status Runs)
▷ Why spend time and money on 'Shugyo' (status runs) now?
In a lifestyle driven by opera rehearsals and performances, I have been looking for ways to improve the quality of my travels while making the most of my limited time.
Now that frequent international travel is difficult, I have arrived at a 'simultaneous status run style' centered on ANA and Hilton as a way to balance domestic airline status runs with a fulfilling hotel stay experience.
▷ What is the big picture of this 'dual-wielding' airline and hotel status run?
In this article, I will briefly introduce how to efficiently acquire and maintain ANA's high-tier status (Diamond) and Hilton's high-tier status (Diamond) primarily through domestic flights, along with one of the hotels I use during the process.
This should serve as a reference for those who want to establish a status run style that suits them, even with limited time and budget.
▷ Status runs don't have to be stoic. Choose a form that fits your lifestyle.
When you hear the word 'Shugyo' (status run), it sounds stoic and extraordinary, but I realized that if you choose a style that fits your daily rhythm, it can be surprisingly fun to continue.
ANA airline status runs require 'Premium Points (PP).' Diamond status requires 100,000 PP per year, but since domestic flights cover shorter distances, you need to fly frequently.
Furthermore, if you combine it with hotel status runs, you can accumulate hotel stay records while you are flying. I truly feel this is 'killing two birds with one stone.'
▷ My status run schedule revealed: How do I combine ANA and Hilton?
My current status run style is as follows:
• Traveling mainly on **ANA domestic flights (primarily Haneda to Naha).** It is efficient for earning PP and has frequent flights.
• While prioritizing cost-effectiveness, I sometimes use Premium Class to distribute the burden.
• Hotels are unified under the Hilton brand. I accumulate status records with each stay, and by the time I finish my ANA status run, I also reach Hilton Diamond status.
In this way, I continue a style of taking a 1-night, 2-day round trip to Naha using two days when I have no performances, at a pace that is not overwhelming.
▷ Unexpected changes and rewards discovered by continuing the status run
By continuing this style, I have experienced the following changes:
• I am now able to maintain high-tier status for both ANA and Hilton.
• The comfort of travel and stays has improved dramatically, including lounges, priority boarding, and room upgrades.
• Using planes and hotels is no longer an end in itself, but something I can enjoy as an 'extension of daily life.'
Especially with an irregular schedule like opera, being able to continue traveling in a way that I can adjust myself is a major achievement.
▷ Those who can 'enjoy' the status run are the ones who ultimately benefit
I feel that finding a way that feels good and is sustainable for me is more important than just 'flying' or 'staying' for the sake of the status run.
Next time, I plan to introduce one of the hotels I often use in Naha city, DoubleTree by Hilton Naha Shuri Castle, in detail.
I hope it will be a useful reference for your hotel selection.
