A day off with no plans was the greatest luxury
Saturday morning, and I have no plans.
How long has it been since I slept without setting an alarm? Before I knew it, it was 11 o'clock. Light was streaming in through the gap in the curtains, and the air in the room felt a little warm. With a hazy head, I listen to the sound of the washing machine running.
I head to the convenience store before noon to buy a rice ball and coffee. It's not a special flavor, but for some reason, it tastes incredibly good. Just by not being chased by time, the scenery, the air, and the taste all seem to soften a little.
On my smartphone, notifications about friends' plans and events keep scrolling by. Before, I would have felt anxious, thinking it was a 'waste' if I didn't make some kind of plan. But now, this silence where nothing is decided is good for my soul. Perhaps this kind of time is more restorative than filling it with plans.
In the afternoon, the laundry hanging on the balcony sways in the breeze. I haven't accomplished anything, but I feel a little bit fulfilled.
I'll remember this luxury next week, too.
