Reading Record | Journey of Life, Sierra Leone
[Journey of Life, Sierra Leone] Hiroyuki Kato
2014, Sierra Leone, West Africa.
A book by a pediatrician belonging to Doctors Without Borders who worked in the area where Ebola virus disease was spreading.
It covers not only his activities in Sierra Leone, but also his personal conflicts and his feelings for each of the children.
The reality of babies being abandoned in Sudan, and the guilt and sense of emptiness he felt toward children in South Sudan, etc.
(The author is someone who deeply empathizes with children.)

I originally became interested in Sierra Leone through a comedian's YouTube video. (A collaboration episode between Seiji Chihara and Hayatomo Sequence)
Seiji Chihara says he visited Sierra Leone. And he spoke about what was done to civilians in Sierra Leone during the civil war.
That was when I first became interested in Sierra Leone.

And then, I read
[The Country with the Shortest Life Expectancy in the World: Doctors Without Borders in Sierra Leone] (Toshiharu Yamamoto)
.
This book is about events during the civil war, just around the time a ceasefire agreement was about to be reached. (2001)
*I have written about this book separately.

Through this book on Sierra Leone by Mr. Toshiharu Yamamoto, I became interested in international humanitarian aid and similar topics.
And now, I donate to several organizations, including 'Doctors Without Borders'.
