I thought I was a reader

I'm the type who reads quite a lot.
And I love it.

Even so, I realized recently that I haven't been reading much, so I opened my Kindle this morning.

Zero days this month. The last day I read was March 26th.
I haven't read in about 10 days? That's rare!

So, I took a look at my reading history, and it said I've read 9 books this year.
...Hmm? 9? Wait, 9 books?
A pace of 3 books a month? No way, that can't be right.

By the way, it says I read 50 books last year.
I'm a speed reader, and I'm perfectly fine reading 10 books a day when I'm in the zone.
Plus, looking at the number of days I read, I usually read at least 10 days a month.

The number of days and the number of books read don't match...!

Then, suddenly.
I scrolled to the very end of a book that was stuck at 97% and closed it, and the count went up by one 🤣
I see!

Kindle only counts books thatyou've scrolled to the last page and marked as 'read'I guess.
...Well, it is a 'read' count, after all!

In other words, if I close a book feeling satisfied just before the afterword, or if I skim through long reference materials, it treats it as'Nope, that's unread.'I see.

That happens to me a lot. Lol
Actually, I might rarely scroll to the very last page.
It's at a level where I wonder how I even managed to get 50 books last year.

My reading style is to skim through the whole thing once, go back if something catches my eye, and then read the necessary pages thoroughly.
I don't read many books that require you to get completely immersed in a world, like novels.
That might be part of it too.

Also, the moment I'm satisfied with the content, my curiosity might shift to the next thing, like 'What happens next?' or 'I wonder what other books say about this?'

But it's sad that they don't get counted.
Setting aside books I stopped reading because they weren't for me, it's kind of heartbreaking that books I've read through completely aren't counted either.

To make sure my reading history is recorded properly, from today on, I'll make sure to scroll to the last page before closing.
Yeah, I'll do my best.

Just to have proof that I 'read' them!
